Re: The Hot Stove League Thread
He'll be 29 next week, and he's coming off a year where he missed significant time with injuries. Add those together and you get a guy who isn't worth nearly as much as he used to be.Comment

This is a few days old and it's idle speculation out of the air but here's a name for a 1B for the Jays.....trading for Justin Smoak.

Re: The Hot Stove League Thread
Wow that's a great move for the Royals. No wonder they didn't deal him at the deadline.
My guess is that San Fran didn't think they would be able to pay him next year or were clearing up money for an upcoming move. They already won a WS with him too.Comment

Re: The Hot Stove League Thread
SF didn't want to pay him because they've seen enough to know he isn't worth it..Could be my ex-Yankee biased for Melky here, but I think SF got the better end of the deal. Sanchez is an average pitcher who had 1 good year out of 4, making 25+ starts a year in the NL West. Plus he's a walking machine. But he's a lefty & everyone remembers the no hitter + his performance in the playoffs last year. I see the appeal and there is the potential but if I were a GM, I wouldn't touch a guy with this many walks + a career 4 ERA in the NL West. I really think he'll have a miserable season in the AL facing the DH and far better lineups then he's ever see before on a regular basis.
Bumgarner is gonna be much better and made JS replaceable anyway.Comment

I just in shock with this trade...I didn't know the Royals could trade with a team besides Atlanta."People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring." - Rogers HornsbyComment

What do you consider Melky?

Re: The Hot Stove League Thread
My thoughts exactly!
Sanchez has or should we say had great potential but his mental makeup will never let him achieve it.
From my perspective it was basically a trade of second rate players.Comment

Re: The Hot Stove League Thread
Melky Cabrera had an amazing season in 2011 (44 doubles, 18 homeruns, .809 OPS) But I dont think he'll come close to that, especially in San Francisco.JayElectronicaBluElzhi2PacTheNotoriousB.I.G.ReksSc arfaceFashawnJeruThaDamajaComment

Re: The Hot Stove League Thread
Sanchez can probably garner more than Melky but even so, he benefited from being in the NL West where hitting is near futile unless you're in AZ.
I don't understand what Dayton thinks he's getting. He will get creamed in the AL, even if it's the central. Too many BBs and too many baserunners...he can't pitch around to get to the 8th / 9th hitters in the AL.Last edited by AirCanada15; 11-07-2011, 06:47 PM.Comment

If he can be had for a reasonable offer Smoak could fit in the Jays lineup and let them slide Lind back into the DH role.Comment

Re: The Hot Stove League Thread
Not a bad move for the Giants, as Sanchez was going to walk next year anyway. With the addition of Cabrera, this at the very least will hopefully pave the way for Gary Brown after 2012.
Worth a flyer for an offense that was absolutely dreadful last year. Melky is also age 27 so that breakout year is more hopeful toward the start of something great than the other end. I like it.I do because I can, I can because I want, I want because you say I can'tComment
