    Re: 6/25 - 7/1 Game Discussion Thread

Today was just one of the saddest games i've ever seen Ricky Romero pitch hell, I can't think of another game he's pitched since he solidified himself in the Jays rotation that he looked THAT bad. It's so bad that after the game he said he's going to work on his delivery with Farrell, Walton and Walker tomorrow. Apparently Farrell doesn't think it's mechanical but that Romero's release point is messed up. (honestly, how is that not mechanical? Oh well)

Qualls is god awful, get him off the team Amaro...and Joe Savery appears tonight allows 5 ER and has yet to appear in a Phillies win.

This bullpen is pathetic, but moreso Manuel's handling of it has been even worse.

Just got to see Trout's catch for the first time...wow. I don't folks realize just how hard that really was...the ball wasn't in the air a long time at all and he covered a ton of ground, got there and went up about 4 feet to make a catch. That was amazing to watch.

Phillies made some bullpen moves today.

Chad Qualls was designated for assignment and Joe Savery was optioned to Triple-A.

Brian Sanches and Jeremy Horst were recalled from Triple-A. Horst was the reliever the Phillies got from the Reds in the Wilson Valdez trade.

Tough 11 game west coast trip before the All Star Break for the Reds, I hope they win at least 6 of them.

Trevor Bauer gets through the first inning, looks like he threw a couple of reverse sliders.

Are you describing how good the movement was, or are you just unfamiliar with what kind of pitch it was?

Neither, he throws 9 pitches, one of which he calls a reverse slider:

                        Pitch eight: Reverse slider

Origin: Between my sophomore year and junior year at UCLA, [that's] really when I picked up on Perry Husband's Effective Velocity and learning how speed and location interact with each other in the zone. It became apparent that I needed something to go the opposite way at a [specific] speed range. It's a cross between a sinking fastball and a screwball -- it's a little bit slower than a sinking fastball and a little bit harder than a traditional screwball would be. I played around with it and got it done. I used it a lot [my senior] year at UCLA. Purpose: It's designed to be a left-handed cut fastball. I want it to sit in the middle range of speeds and move about 5 inches, just enough to get from the middle of the plate to the outside corner to a lefty or the inside corner to a righty.
Grip: If you think about how you grip a slider and how your hand is on the outside of the ball, I just reverse everything. So my thumb position, my wrist position, all that stuff, I reverse. And [the ball] rolls off my pointer finger.
                        Speed: Between 88-91.
Grade: Give it a 50. Movement-wise, people are going to say, "Oh, that's not impressive," but very few people understand how effective a pitch that moves 4 inches is, and especially in that speed range. It's a pitch that I will throw increasingly often as my career goes along.
From milb.com's prospect pitch feature on him. And just as I post this, he strikes out Uggla with it, and Mark Grace makes a comment about it lol

That pitch looked like nothing but a change-up to me, but since he names it and gave it some zip, what the hell I guess haha.

I can't wait till someone makes a gif of that Andrelton Simmons catch, and puts in a cartoon banana peel as if he "slips" on one to make the catch.

Bautista with 14 homers and 29 RBI in June. He's creeping up on Josh Hamilton for the top RBI spot. Still batting .238.

No one said anything about the Cubs yesterday? 17-1 loss to the Mets. Jeff Samardijiza giving up 9 runs in 3.1 innings. Sad stuff.
