Re: Trade Deadline Thread
I just don't see how Brad Lincoln becomes a key piece in another deal. I think this is more of the Anthopoulus being enamored by a former high draft pick with a good "years of control" contract. Rogers really hates the operating expense of the Jays and AA is forced to look for deals like this to plug holes.

Like Bugle said, but more official;
Seattle Mariners @Mariners
#Mariners acquire two prospects from Los Angeles Dodgers in exchange for RHP Brandon League.

Re: Trade Deadline Thread
I like the Snider trade for the Pirates as he's been putting up much better numbers lately and quite frankly I think he's one of those guys that just needs a fresh start. I think he's gonna be a very underrated acquisition that pays off well.
I'm sad to see Eric Thames go and basically for nothing.
Hopefully these trades are setting up for something bigger but a part of me doesn't think so as the Jays have now chopped off the huge logjam in the outfield.
Time will tell......
Buccos fans will like Snider as he's improved greatly in the field and his bat is coming around nicely.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: Trade Deadline Thread
I'm not a fan of Delabar. He's got a lively arm and potential, but he can't keep the ball in the yard (9 HR's in 36.2 IP), especially against Righties.

Ouch. Mixed bag. If he can strike 'em out and keep 'em low, he'll be fine. If not, we've got another Cecil/Alvarez/Cordero..."Twelve at-bats is a pretty decent sample size." - Eric ByrnesComment

Re: Trade Deadline Thread
If the HR rate normalizes, he is a solid relief option. I still think his arm will fly off one of these days, throwing that hard with a metal plate in your elbow can't be good for you (not to mention he throws the two offspeed pitches that are most associated with elbow injuries).Bakin' soda, I got bakin' sodaComment

Re: Trade Deadline Thread
I always speak this way when people think their team got the best of all trades. The fact is, no team is a lock to win in baseball. The trade has no advantage to either side on the scale. The Cubs got a top prospect pitcher, and a pretty decent minor league pitcher. The Braves got a 29 year old lefty who has gotten lit up in his career, but has also had good stretches, but has NEVER pitched in the playoffs. They also got a great veteran 4th outfielder, who has one year remaining and will probably look elsewhere for more of a chance to play everyday, unless Chipper retiring means that Prado would play 3rd, and they'd give Reed LF.
Maholm is good, but do you think he can beat the Yankees/Rangers in the World Series?
Paul Maholm won't be a starter facing the Yankees or Rangers, barring injuries. Those spots are reserved for Hudson, Hanson, Sheets, and probably Minor. Anything can happen to any of those guys too. If Maholm keeps pitching like he is, then maybe he WILL contribute in big playoff spots. Who knows.
Fact is, they filled two major holes for a guy who's promising but currently hurt and another minor league reliever. Getting a guy like Reed Johnson, a guy who kills lefty pitching is going to be critical for a team who's had trouble doing so all year. Not to mention being able to give guys like Heyward, Bourn, and Chipper more rest (when Prado goes to 3B, Johnson fills in at LF), and you keep guys fresh down the stretch. These are the types of moves that really help things. Not to mention financially, Maholm is owed like 6 million bucks next year. Hardly a backbreaker.
They are hopefully going to get bullpen help tomorrow, and that will fill another hole.
I'm just not sure how anyone can definitively say that the Braves WON'T win a World Series in the next two years. Pretty unfathomable. They have as good a shot as any contender does.Comment
