Re: Trade Deadline Thread
In 2 years the Braves won't have Maholm or Johnson, and won't have a World Series ring...I'm pretty sure the Cubs will still have both pitchers...
Also, Chapman is no slouch. He's been pretty good the last two years and over his whole minor league career.
I think the trade is about even right now. It gives the Cubs exactly what they want, young pitching, and gives the Braves exactly what they need.
The Braves are better after this trade and our pitching depth in the minors allows us to do this without getting worse. Good deal..."People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring." - Rogers HornsbyComment

Re: Trade Deadline Thread
I always speak this way when people think their team got the best of all trades. The fact is, no team is a lock to win in baseball. The trade has no advantage to either side on the scale. The Cubs got a top prospect pitcher, and a pretty decent minor league pitcher. The Braves got a 29 year old lefty who has gotten lit up in his career, but has also had good stretches, but has NEVER pitched in the playoffs. They also got a great veteran 4th outfielder, who has one year remaining and will probably look elsewhere for more of a chance to play everyday, unless Chipper retiring means that Prado would play 3rd, and they'd give Reed LF.
Maholm is good, but do you think he can beat the Yankees/Rangers in the World Series?Comment

I have a feeling the Cubs/Dodgers deal is pretty much done. Just waiting for approval from Soriano and Dempster.Comment

Re: Trade Deadline Thread
I think Sori even knows he's going to be dealt. My friend said that he was with his son all day during BP and looked very similar to what Kerry did before he retired...Comment

I'm surprised Marmols name has been thrown out there. He's converted 12 straight saves and has actually looked pretty good...Comment

Re: Trade Deadline Thread
Don't know enough about Brad Lincoln, but a 27 year old pitcher who hasn't been able to stick with the Pirates for Snider? Snider has had his struggles for sure, but his raw tools have to be worth more than that. Maybe the Jays scouts know something I don't.Comment

Re: Trade Deadline Thread
I just don't see how Brad Lincoln becomes a key piece in another deal. I think this is more of the Anthopoulus being enamored by a former high draft pick with a good "years of control" contract. Rogers really hates the operating expense of the Jays and AA is forced to look for deals like this to plug holes.Comment
