Really loving these trades Jeff Luhnow is pulling. He's doing a great job with stockpiling the farm system with mid-level prospects that could help the club in the next year or two.

Yeah Luhnow is a great talent evaluator, was sad to see the Cardinals lose him this offseason but happy that he got a job as a GM, well deserved and I hope he gets the Astros built back up to being a contender now that they're leaving the NL Central.

I'd assume JJ gets traded too, or at least shop him with a high price tag and see what they can get.

Seems it will take a good offer to get them to trade him. I don't think they are trying to just cut $$ as much as cut $$ that's not performing. If the Rangers offer Olt they should take it imo

I am SO happy the Phillies finally resigned Hamels. There's just no way you let your homegrown ace entering his prime years get away. Doesn't matter what contracts you already have on the rolls. You just don't let that happen.

This team has raked in cash hand over fist over these successful years in the 2000's. Not resigning Hamels, and then making all of these other moves in parrallel of that (Cliff Lee, Hunter Pence, Papelbon, Howard's extension) would've made no sense from any competitive standpoint.

Offered Victorino to the Reds for Logan Ondrusek but they said no.

I am SO happy the Phillies finally resigned Hamels. There's just no way you let your homegrown ace entering his prime years get away. Doesn't matter what contracts you already have on the rolls. You just don't let that happen.

Papelbon's deal was stupid though - in line with Heath Bell's. No closer is worth that money unless his first name is Mariano. A hint to the Giants as they may be looking for some help in that area (and seem very reluctant to move Sergio Romo out of a set up role).

I agree....let Papelbon and Bell be the cautionary tales on why you do not throw huge dollars at a closer. A closer is just one of those positions you need to grow within your organization, or tender a short-term deal to.

Thank you for paying that much for Papelbon. I don't care if Aceves likes giving up 3 runs every appearance...he's not as annoying and overpaid as Paps.

Reports saying that the Padres offered Luke Gregerson for Daniel Murphy, but the Mets declined.

There were some reports that the Cubs offered Dempster for Allen Webster straight up and the Dodgers turned it down.
