i'm flabbergasted that tyler greene is still in the majors, he doesn't have any minor league options left but the cardinals need to thank him for his services and let him go. he turns 29 this month and still hasn't established himself in the majors. good talent but he constantly chokes and looks overmatched. he's a liability defensively and while he has shown potential with the bat he's far too inconsistent and strikes out a ton.

/rant. watching the cardinals struggle like this is rough.

Really hoping he can give my fantasy team a boost, as I just snagged him. I'm platooning Yunel Escobar and Scutaro, so he can't be much worse.

In real life news, this has to be pretty exciting for O's fans.

That'd be an understatement. Really surprised by the call up, but he's been really hot lately and his OPS in Bowie is near .800. He should be better offensively and defensively than Betemit and Reynolds and will be a clear offensive upgrade over Andino. A lot less pressure on him than there was on Wieters when he was called up.

Machado will be the greatest thing since sliced bread until the first game he goes 0-4, then he will be viewed as a complete bust.

Braves got the Phillies number this year. Not sure what the season series is (a lot to a little), but I bet Matrix would have no problem telling me lol.

                    Re: 8/6 - 8/12 Game Discussion Thread

Here's a comparison between other notable shortstops who debuted at age 20 and Machado:

                    Starlin Castro:

                    AA (19) .288/.347/.396/.744
                    ML (20) .300/.347/.408/.755

                    Jose Reyes:

                    AA (19) .287/.331/.425/.757
                    ML (20) .307/.334/.434/.769

                    Elvis Andrus:

                    AA (19) .295/.350/.367/.717
                    ML (20) .267/.329/.373/.702

                    Manny Machado:

                    AA (19) .266/.344/.438/.782
                    ML (20) ???

Obviously not something to swear by, but interesting at the least.

Well, he was just traded to the Astros, who seem to be having a hard time estalishing themselves as a MLB team. So it seems like a match made in heaven.

Woke up to the news this morning, instantly thanked the baseball gods. He's had his chance, maybe a new team and more playing time will help him figure it out, although i've always seen him as a 4A player. I find it interesting though that this is the 4th 1st-round draft pick the cardinals have traded/dumped in the last year (rasmus, ottavino, zach cox). i'm curious to see who the cardinals will call up since they most likely will just get cash from the astros.

wainwright and bumgarner are having a pitcher's duel, cards up 2-1 ending the 5th. they gotta pick up a win today and gain some ground in the standings.

Teixeira and Eric Chavez (who is 9-16 against the Tigers this series) go back to back. Yankees have the lead 4-3 in the 8th.

EDIT: Tigers had runners on 1st and 3rd with no outs in the bottom of the 9th down by a run. Lineout, Popup, Flyout... The Yankees win!

EDIT again: Is it just me, or is baseball reference the greatest site ever? I've been on there all day looking at random players' splits. It's crazy how in depth the site is and how much information is in that one place.

Machados second MLB at bat and he hits one in the right center gap for a triple.

Wieters' first career hit (which I witnessed in person) was also a triple. He needed the ball to take about 7 bounces off the wall, but it was a triple nonetheless.

I like to look at the player pictures on the front page and guess their names. So much obscurity in the name department.
