    Re: TWINS

Signing Ellis Burks makes no sense. He's a DH only, and an aged, oft-injured one at that. Doing this would tell Lecroy that you're not confident in him, without ever giving him a chance. I doubt this will happen, as any money the Twins are able to free up would go towards pitching. I think our offense and defense are set, and the pitching staff and how it shakes out is the only remaining question mark.

I like the A.J. trade, lets us finally see what Joe Maur can do at C. But I'm conserned about all the "questionable" moves we've made this offseason, I feel like we are beginning to trade away our "nucleous"......

and if maur(sp) doesn't play good at catcher we always have lecroy, and then for the dh the twins could put in Justin Moreno(sp?)(he played 1st base last year)
            Colorado Avalanche (NHL)
            Denver Nuggets (NBA)
            Green Bay Packers (NFL)
            Iowa Hawkeyes (NCAA)
            Minnesota Twins (MLB)
            Tennessee Volunteers (NCAA)

They should be decent this year, I think they can win the central.

That's life as a Twins fan, people. We're a small market team that doesn't have the money to keep a roster stocked with all-stars. Some players are going to price themselves out of our reach (Guardado, Hawkins) and that's why it's important to have a strong minor league system. Often times we have to turn the reigns over to an unproven minor leaguer who can do a job for much cheaper than the current veteran player. You'll see that next year when Doug M. moves on and Morneau takes over at 1st base. AJ was traded because he'll be able to demand a huge raise after this year, and we would have had no trade leverage if we held onto him. Terry Ryan always has to piece together a nice mix of youngsters and veterans in order to keep our costs down, and i think he's doing OK again this year. We have a lot of question marks, but there aren't a lot of alternatives out there.

While it sucks to have to watch your team develope good players and watch them leave on a regular basis, Twins fans are lucky, lucky that there team has such a stacked farm system that they can trade away a guy like A.J. Pierzynski and someone is ready to take his place, the Twins have so many good young arms that they could trade Eric Milton, let Eddie Guardado, LaTroy Hawkins,Rick Reed and Kenny Rogers leave as a free agents, and still should have a competitive team, even looking down the line two or three years from now, the Twins should still have a pretty decent lineup.
