I enjoy sabermetrics as much as the next guy, but to me, this is no contest. Leading the league in 3 different categories (three of the toughest to win, there are plenty of guys who haven't led the league in any of the three...) is incredible to me and as much as Trout impressed and amazed me this season, I have to give Cabrera the nod. Now, of course, my opinion doesn't matter since I don't have a vote, but I hope that history doesn't repeat itself and what happened to Ted Williams (twice) doesn't happen to Cabrera.
Miggy won the triple crown, yes. He did something that hasn't been done since 1967. That's fabulous. Its great for the game. But Mike Trout had a season that NO ONE has EVER had in the history of the game.

As mentioned by TCM, the reasons the MLBN analysts are using are asinine. Billy Ripken said, in response to Brian Kenny saying LA had more wins than DET, "It doesn't matter. They finished first in their division."

So is Mike Trout supposed to affect how the Rangers and A's play against other teams?

Well Miggy won the MVP in the AL and Posey in the NL:

Cabrera received 22 of 28 first-place votes and 362 points from the AL panel of Baseball Writers' Association of America. Los Angeles Angels rookie centre fielder Mike Trout had six firsts and 281 points.

Posey got 27 of 32 firsts and 422 points from the NL panel, outdistancing 2011 winner Ryan Braun of Milwaukee, who was second with 285 points.
      Can't say that i'm shocked.

I wouldn't be all that upset about Cabrera winning if it were close, but the landslide manner in which he won is ridiculous.

With the exception of Price over Verlander, every award was spot-on. Very well done this year.

Price over Verlander was as 'spot-on' as Cabrera over Trout. You can't like one and not the other.

After Price took the Cy Young, I knew that Cabby won the MVP. Congrats to the four of them, they all had outstanding seasons.

Great a T-Shirt celebrating an award he didn't deserve.

It's a joke, the Gold Glove thing is a joke. It's like the Heisman, the credibility is so shot, it becomes a who cares event.

Cmon BK. Trout had the better overall season but to say Cabrera didn't deserve it and its a joke is way too extreme. The dude did something that hasn't been done in decades and put up some incredible numbers.

I feel like this is getting lost in all of the debate, that each player was deserving to some degree.

It all comes down to how we want to quantify value. WAR? Runs? Playoffs (pfft)? None of the above for me. There is a stat called WPA (win probability added) that attempts to measure how much a player contributes to his team's chances of winning. Basically a higher WPA means a player contributed more in helping his team win games. Highest WPA in major league baseball? Mike Trout. Next highest? Buster Posey. Third highest? Prince Fielder. Highest WPA for pitchers? Justin Verlander. Prince Fielder and Justin Verlander contributed just as much, if not more, to the Tigers' win total, so what makes Cabrera so special? Is it the fact that he led the league in three arbitrary stats? It's certainly not because he single-handedly led his team to the playoffs like some people are claiming (which he didn't), so how is Trout being the first player in the history of the game to go at least .325AVG/30HR/125R/45SB not more impressive? I haven't even mentioned Trout's superior fielding and baserunning, since we all know the story by now.

Honestly I don't know why I keep defending the guy since I hate the Angels and subsequently any player on the Angels, but when the best player in the league doesn't get rewarded for being the best player in the league (A-Rod '96, '98 cough cough) it irks me just a little bit.

And Trout did something that's never been done, ever, not to mention is far far superior in the field and on the base paths.

If Trout played for a team not on the west coast, we wouldn't be having this discussion.

He didn't deserve it, plain and simple. If Trout had a better overall season as you said, Trout deserved it and quite simply Cabrera didn't.

Last I'll say on it, the award at this point is meaningless.
