Seems like a pretty cheap deal, but is this the big pitching splash they promised us? What a load of crap. I don't mind Wells being signed as a back of the rotation guy, but not as our "ace."

Re: Padres get David Wells
Ok seriously this would be a nice pickup if the Padres had a bit more SP deph but they don't and Wells will likely get injured at some point this season. The Padres management are also out of their mind not to include weight restrictions etc et al. into the contract but hey at least it'll be good publicity having a native son come home.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: Padres get David Wells
It's garbage man, that's what it is. The Padres front office sat back and waited while quality arms got snatched up left and right. They spent ~$3mil on Hitchcock, Valdez, and some scrub pitcher from the Mexican leagues. Now they sign Wells. That gives them FOUR #5 pitcher and not a single ace on the roster!! What a joke.Comment

Re: Padres get David Wells
David Wells was one of the more consistent pitchers on the Yankee staff last year. Even though he's old and overweight, he can still pack a punch. He's definitely a threat on the mound and a great asset to a rebuilding team full of learning youngsters. In my opinion, great pickup by the Padres considering it barely cost them anything.
Yankees now have to look for other pitching options considering they have NO LEFTY STARTERS AS WE SPEAK. According to Rotoworld, the Yanks want to go after Greg Maddux (another righty) and/or bring back Orlando "El Duque" Hernandez and/or sign a Cuban defector named Maels Rodriguez. I'm foreshadowing a rough season for the Yankees......especially with Boston loading up with stars...

$1.5-1.75 Million for a guy that has 200+ wins is a good deal. He might get hurt and he might not. This is a good signing by the Padres. Especially since he came so cheap. Does this leave enough money for the team to sign Maddux though?Comment

Re: Padres get David Wells
It is a great pick up for them, if they go get more quality pitching to go with it. If not then it's better to have Wells on your team than not, but I can see where that would be a major let down to the fans since it's no where near what was promised to them, or what they were led to believe they would see the Padres make a run at.Twitter:@Fetter21
