Yup. And this part in particular is just...wow.

One of those speaking out is Blengino, the former No. 2 in Zduriencik’s front office. Blengino, who was working for the Milwaukee Brewers with Zduriencik at the time, said he authored virtually the entire job application package Zduriencik gave the Mariners in 2008, depicting a dual-threat candidate melding traditional scouting with advanced statistical analysis.

Blengino said he prepared the package because he was versed in the hot trend of using advanced stats for team decisions.

“Jack portrayed himself as a scouting/stats hybrid because that’s what he needed to get the job,” Blengino said. “But Jack never has understood one iota about statistical analysis. To this day, he evaluates hitters by homers, RBI and batting average and pitchers by wins and ERA. Statistical analysis was foreign to him. But he knew he needed it to get in the door.”

Yeah, that made my jaw about hit the floor. Would certainly explain why so many of his moves didn't make sense from a stat POV.

Too bad single game tickets aren't on sale yet! I would've asked for tickets for Christmas! Cause NHL tickets way too expensive, and Raptors....lol, so MLB would've been what I chose.

This is wow. I remember the celebration for Jack Z was because Seattle was getting this super intelligent stat guy that also had seeing-eye experience.

I was excited for Seattle and often wondered how they could still be struggling to put it together with this genius stat guy at the helm.

Now it all makes sense. I'm gonna assume the ownership knows this already and Z is making the splash moves to save his job.

“He nitpicked about font sizes and column widths,” Blengino said. “He did what he always does and made fun of something he couldn’t understand.”
The mental image of this made me chuckle.

Great article. Kinda feel for Seattle at this point. Not a great move on Cano and this doesn't inspire much hope. Their fans deserve much better.

                Does Cano have an NTC?

I'm guessing at this point guys sign for the money because even if things are that bad, they can always control where they get traded to.

I don't hope bad things for Seattle, but it looks like they have some upper management issues. That never bodes well. We've seen many franchises struggle for years because of that. Some fix it (Pirates), others still can't figure it out (Royals).

That article on Jack Z is a jaw dropper for sure.....

I wonder what talk radio and other media coverage are saying about this over there. He's been completely exposed as a fraud now. I daresay, if the M's start off real slow and don't look like a playoff team he will be out of a job.

Very glad that article was written though. Confirms what so many have suspected all along about how terrible this ownership/front office really is.

We've been wanting those two out for years. What business a couple of attorneys have telling managers & coaches how to handle instructing players, I'll never know. I'm glad Wedge came public. I wish Hargrove would have as well. Lincoln/Armstrong are the ones who hired Bavasi, then later publicly told him win this year or else...which got us the Bedard/Adam Jones disaster.

I think the truth on Jack Z is somewhere a little closer to the middle. Blengino was fired and is out of baseball, so he's a little bitter. Jason Churchill, who is not shy about his displeasure with Jack, has already called BS on his claim of Jack scouting based on HR's, RBI's, ERA's, etc. With that said, it's obvious Jack has gone away from statistical analysis with roster construction and it's probably time for him to go. Unfortunately, it doesn't matter if he's here or not, because his replacement would be just as bad.

Agreed. I doubt that Jack just uses those, but at the same time, I'd be surprised if he uses much more than OPS+ or something like that.

Joe Torre, Bobby Cox, Tony La Russa to the Hall of Fame

Joe Torre, Tony La Russa and Bobby Cox, baseball's winningest managers over the past four decades, were unanimously elected to the Hall of Fame on Monday by the expansion era committee.
