Re: Care to take a stab at the Cubs probable batting order?

Barrett's got a world of potential.

He was an all-star with Montreal two years ago, then got injured in the second half. When he recovered from his injury, the Expos made him a platoon player.

    Explain that one.

      How it SHOULD be:

      2b. Todd Walker
      lf. Moises Alou
      rf. Sammy Sosa
      lf. Derrek Lee
      cf. Corey Patterson
      3b. Aramis Ramirez
      ss. Alex Gonzalez/ Mark Grudzielanek
      c. Michael Barrett

      What it probably will be:

      2b. Mark Grudzielanek
      lf. Moises Alou
      rf. Sammy Sosa
      cf. Corey Patterson
      1b. Derrek Lee
      3b. Aramis Ramirez
      ss. Alex Gonzalez
      c. Michael Barrett.

I bet after going through all the possible lineups, Baker will realize Patterson should not be hitting higher than 3rd. Our best number two hitter after Grudz / Walker is Alou, so it makes perfect sense for him to go there. Patterson might as well lead off instead of going into an OBP necessary 2-hole.

      <hr /></blockquote><font class="post">

I'd be willing to bet that either Lee or Patterson will bat out of the #2 spot (or Grudzielanek if Patterson ends up leading off). Lee would probably get the nod over Alou because of his speed and ability to get on base. Of everybody on the Cubs' current roster Lee easily has the highest OBP at .379 and the most stolen bases at 21 (Patterson would have had more stolen bases had he not gotten injured).

Here's how each in their lineup looks in on base percentage and stolen bases:

      1) Mark Grudzielanek (.366 obp, 6 sb)
      2) Derek Lee (.379 obp, 21 sb)
      3) Corey Patterson (.329 obp, 16 sb)
      4) Sammy Sosa (.358 obp, 0 sb)
      5) Moises Alou (.357 obp, 3 sb)
      6) Aramis Ramirez (.324 obp, 2 sb)
      7) Michael Barrett (.280 obp, 0 sb)
      8) Alex Gonzalez (.295 obp, 3 sb)

Umm, I think he was just shedding some light on who Michael Barrett is and questioning why the Expos made him a platoon player. That is how I read it anyway.

Barrett's got a world of potential.

He was an all-star with Montreal two years ago, then got injured in the second half. When he recovered from his injury, the Expos made him a platoon player.

                              Explain that one.

Umm, I think he was just shedding some light on who Michael Barrett is and questioning why the Expos made him a platoon player. That is how I read it anyway.
