    Re: Concern for yankee fans

Is there a concern for Yankee fans? Yes. However, it is really about health. If the rotation can stay reasonably healthy they will be ok. Mussina is a good solid pitcher who has performed well in the big games (Oakland 1-0, Bos-relief effort to name two). I would venture to say that he has just as many, if not more, big game performances compared to Pedro. Don't get me wrong, Pedro is great and will probably be a Yankee next year, but he doesn't scare me like Schilling does in a big game. Basically if Brown and Vasquez have their typical years (and stay healthy) and Lieber and Contreras can be good, the Yanks and RedSox should both win over 95 games. I still think it comes down to depth of pitching. Wakefield doesn't scare me as all knuckleballers are spotty. Game 4 matchup--Wakefield vs. a healthy Lieber or possibly Vasquez. Which would you prefer?

It doesn't matter they will whip up a deal that will move every prospect they have for pitching. They already have a $200+ million dollar payroll, so what is a couple more dollars to them. The concern should be for the rest of baseball, the small markets, until there is a salary cap baseball will keep getting worse and worse every year with the difference between team's budgets.

You know, I love baseball. I am a huge Yankee fan, but I will watch any game. This whole small market thing is really annoying though. The Boss pays millions upon millions of dollars into the revenue sharing pot and only the Royals used the money for players. The rest of the owners slashed the budget. If they are getting a handout to equalize things, why wouldn't they use the money to improve their team? I didn't hear anyone cry in the 80's and early 90's about the Yankees having the highest payroll when they struggled to win 70 games a year. Teams can compete and always have despite budgets, history shows that. The Yankees have always had a lot of revenue, but from 78 to 96 was a quite a time between championships, don't you think? Yes, the Yankees have the advantage of revenue, but teams can do more. Use the revenue sharing to build your team. Spend money to make money. Fans will come if there is a winner. Look at the Marlins and Angels. They had no attendence until their teams became good. The Giants put a good team on the field every year with a small budget. The game is as competitive as it has always been.

why don't you guys get, most owners have the money to buy lots of players, but they choose not to like the twins owner, he is worth $2 billion, but his team has a low payroll. I mean the yanks can't help it if everyone wants to see them play.

Yea, I cant believe that the Twins got rid off him, David Ortiz. He is pretty good whether he comes off the bench to pinch hit or in the starting line up batting fourth.

The Twins had too many left-handed batters. It was good for both them and Ortiz to go with something else. He has a similar to make-up to Mo Vaughn only not as polished, both of those guys had the power to pull at Fenway and the strength to use the Monster.

It would certainly be nice if Reese could put up those numbers, but I wouldn't expect him to equal Walker's numbers. Walker had a decent season but he was horribly inconsistent. He got hot at the end of the season and into the playoffs though which made him look like an offensive power house to the national media. Reese is there primarily for his defense, which Walker just isn't good at. And Bellhorn is there in case he can find the stroke he had a few years ago that made him dangerous. If he started hitting again this year then that would make things pretty interesting.
