Re: Sounds like Maddux is heading to Mesa

Estes is gone. It is unlikely that the Cubs were going to have a left-hander in the rotation, regardless of whether or not they sign Maddux. I believe that Juan Cruz was going to get his chance to fill out that 5th roster spot.

Now, with the potential addition of Maddux (assuming the Cubs are not going to label him the 5th starter), that makes Clement or Zambrano the 5th starter ... not too bad.

Maddux is sitting on 289 wins. Win #1 as a Cub, and win #300 as a Cub. If nothing else, it makes for good drama

I truly believe that Maddux is good for 12-15 wins this year (time will tell). Whereas Estes was only good for 8 last year. I know Maddux is on the downside of his career, but his ERA last year was almost a full 2 points better than Estes ... YIKES!! I'll take that.

I think Wood and Prior both have more to prove before we can consider the Cubs rotation to be the best in the business.

That is a very nice rotation, although Lowe had a terrible 2003 season. It's so nice to see the Cubs have the best team in the NL, and the Red Sox have the best AL team. And no, the Yankees are not better than the Red Sox at this point, I don't care what you say.

Agreed but as a baseball fan who has no ties to either team, from 1 through 5 I would still take the Cubs rotation over the Red Sox.
