That's unlikely. Possible, but unlikely.
This Yankee guy up top is not like every Yankee fan mind you. The majority of us just take it as business as usual. Steinbrenner runs his club like a corporation and we just support the product he puts out on the field.
I don't think any "real" Yankee fans were guaranteeing the championship. I haven't heard one say it yet. We assume we'll get to the post season and we'll take it from there.
If you've heard from any Mets fans, they're not angry with Steinbrenner. They're irate at their own management for not being as proactive with their team.
The Yankee revenue stream is unmatched among MLB teams, true. But lame owners in smaller markets shouldn't be so pissed when their filling their own pockets selfishly instead of investing more in their teams.

Oh come on, it's posts like these that give Yankee fans a bad name. Major League Baseball is comepletley different from the real world, and if you can't figure that out on your own, there isn't much of a point in explaining it to you.

What happened to Baseball being a "metaphor for life"?
The whole thing was a half joke anyway but I think a legit point that when talking about sports a lot of people seem to like the socialist/communist way of doing things.

Because the other owners are content to buy a crappy club for $200 million, demand a publicly funded ballpark, use the Yankees as an excuse for not winning and making money, never dig into their own deep pockets to aid the team, take their revenue sharing checks and then sell the same crappy club with a diminshed fan base for $275 million ten years down the road.
True story from Andrew Zimbalist's latest book: The 1997 Marlins, owned by Wayne Huizenga, won the World Series and managed to lose money. In their contract with Pro Player stadium, they agreed that the stadium would keep all merchandise, food, parking, and other revenues. Had this not been the case, the club would have turned a profit. Huizenga used this to justify their famous fire sale that winter.
Well guess who owned Pro Player Park? Yep, Wayned Huizenga. He was taking money out of his left pocket (Marlins company) and putting it into his right (stadium company) and crying about the fact that the left pocket was empty.Comment

Re: Since When Did Everyone Become a Socialist/Communist?
Its nice that everyone wants to drag Marx into this but, from a practical standpoint, what do you think would happen to prices at various ballparks if owners got into bidding wars over the right to pay 20 million for players?Comment
