    Re: 2013 Trade Deadline Thread

    Okay idea time.

Middlebrooks is coming back up, Xander getting some extra ABs down in the minors...but now we don't have a back up 2B/SS, wonder if Young is coming to Boston tomorrow.

      Re: 2013 Trade Deadline Thread

I may be the exception as a Tigers fan, but I love this deal. I'm not as big on Garcia as many others, and trading away Vasquez the other day depletes our OF prospect pool even more, leaving us basically with Castellanos who has been hit or miss (emphasis on miss) in the OF defensively. But we have virtually nothing for depth at SS behind Peralta, don't even try to sell me on Danny Worth lol, so when he gets suspended we actually have a contingency in place. Not to mention the fact Iglesias is under team control for what, 5 years? Putting him next to Cabrera on the left side of the infield is exactly what the Tigers need, regardless of what he can do at the plate.

Nice to see the A's get in on the trade deadline hoopla as Callaspo is a pretty good piece.
I'm not sure what you mean regarding Garcia's body type. He's a big dude with exceptional speed and a power arm, he's the prototypical RFer. This is the first I've ever heard of him projected as an infielder. At this point he's capable of playing all 3 outfield spots

        Winners of this imo:

        1.) Chi
        2.) Det
        3.) Bos

        Detroit did pretty well.

I agree that Chicago won, but I think Boston was second.

Just because Chi and Det came out ahead doesn't mean Boston lost, it was a very fair trade for all teams. Risky for Boston though.

Well you ranked them 1-2-3 so 3 got the worst end so loser.

Is risky, but really didn't give up anything except for iggy's glove.

Yeah... at worst, the Red Sox got nothing. They gave up basically nothing in the grand scheme of things.

I think this is actually kind of a steal for us. We get a rotation upgrade for a piece that has been far overrated for far too long. The fact we got anything of value for Iggy actually kind of amazes me. He's great defensively, but that's only part of the game.

I personally feel like the Tigers lost out the most in this deal. The Tigers got Iggy who while nice defensively is a downgrade all around from the to be suspended Johnny Peralta. On top of that, they gave up Garcia to do that. There were other short stops available too, so it's not like the Red Sox were tying the Tigers arms behind their backs. This deal came out of pretty much nowhere, really fast once Cliff Lee talks broke down.

I think it's a push between the White Sox and Red Sox. Both get what they were looking for. The White Sox got that one prospect in Garcia, and the Red Sox got a decent rotation upgrade at a pretty relatively cheap price. The only side of it that I feel got gipped is the Tigers, who gave away a fair deal, and didn't really get enough return back for it to be totally fair.

Comparing Iglesias as an upgrade or downgrade to Peralta is pointless. Peralta screwed the Tigers. It was either Ramon freaking Santiago at SS, or make a move. And Iglesias is much better (and younger) than Santiago. I'm not thrilled with giving up little Miggy, but it is what it is. Iglesias won't match Peralta's bat, but he's a big upgrade defensively, and can't possibly be any worse than whatever it is Santiago does when he's at the plate.

I think it's important to consider the need for the Tigers to put a defensive SS next to Cabrera on the left side of the infield, even if he projects as a number 9 hitter. The range to at least marginally make up for Cabrera's lack thereof is crucial. Not to mention the whole ballpark dynamic and how Detroit should be looking for speedy defensive players to suit Comerica and to compliment the sluggers, I just love the move.

good move for the tigers, we all know peralta is getting suspended and might be done as a tiger. Jose can be our ss for the next ten years possibly and is amazing on defense.

I've heard that he's more or less a Cabrera clone and that he may become too slow for the OF if he doesn't take care of his body. Maybe I may have misunderstood but that's my understanding. If he shows more care for himself that way though then good on him

So can the Phillies even trade anybody now? Cards/Dodgers are probably the only teams that would want him but since the Red Sox refused to give top prospects so can they.. Ruben might have to lower the price tag or we'll be keeping him, I guess.

other than that, Michael Young is the only guy who seems like he'll go.

Your fans will grow to love Iggy's defense. Offensively, Tigers lineup is good enough, anything Iggy provides from the 9 spot is a bonus.
