I'm a little surprised the Blue Jays aren't trying to ship Buehrle out though as he's pitching like the Buehrle of a couple years ago over his last few starts. He'd be a great pick up for a team looking for a pitcher. I also expect AA to try and deal Melky despite that report only saying Bonifacio is available.
I agree with trying to deal Melky. I kinda wanna keep Bonifacio though. I like his speed. If Buehrle can go back to his form a couple of years ago, I wouldn't trade him. He'd be a beast for the team if he can keep his current run up.

      Maybe just a day off

Rangers have inquired on Jose Bautista, source confirms @DannyKnoblerCBS report. Deal does not appear likely at this point.

It's not really necessary to move Lee at the deadline. His value will just as high this offseason with how poor the free agent market is. It may even be higher due to many more teams being interested in Lee's services because they think than can make the playoffs rather than knowing they're out already.

I only suggest trading him because of the whole dog thing. I have a feeling he might ask to be traded in the offseason.

                Huh?

Am I the only person that thinks giving up Zach Lee and Joc Pederson for Holland is ridiculous? Two top 100 prospects, arguably the top two prospects in LA's system for Greg Holland? No thanks.

I really hope that was sarcasm from Bowden.

Sounds like Tigers could go after Darren Oliver from Jays.

Would they deal Jose Alvarez for him?

It hurts having to give up Garcia, but if Iglesias can continue to make contract with balls, he's going to be our SS for a long time. He's has gold glove upside and has some speed on the base paths. With Peralta getting suspended and Tigers going for it, they needed to have insurance at SS and now they have it for this year and for possibly a long time. As long as we still have Nick Castellanos, I'm pretty pleased. He can play in the OF until Cabrera is too old to play 3B.

EDIT: I don't mind picking up Oliver from the Jays, but I highly doubt they would give up Jose Alvarez for him. I imagine a return would be similar or less than what the Cards got for 'zep.

Talks getting ever-the-more serious between the DBacks and Padres for Kennedy. Thatcher would head to Arizona if the deal goes down.

@JeffPassan: Ian Kennedy goes to Padres for reliever Joe Thatcher, relief prospect Matt Stites and a draft pick between the second and third rounds.

EDIT: MLBTR confirms a "compensation round B draft pick"

Bowden later said that Pederson wasn't being traded.

Here's the thing though, Greg Holland, if made available would be the best relief option out there on the market, period. He's got a 14.18 K/9 and a 40.2% groundball rate on top of 63 strikeouts in 40 innings pitched. Then you take that and combine it with his 1.44 FIP... he'd better fetch a good return if he's going to get traded.

The fact of the mater is that the closer has been one of the most valuable assets a team can posses. The A's got Josh Reddick in return for Andrew Bailey on the decline and the Rangers managed to get Mike Adams in return for two of the Rangers top 10 prospects in Robbie Erlin and Joe Wieland. If Greg Holland can put up these types of numbers then there's no reason he shouldn't fetch a better return than these guys.

Joc Pederson is one of the better outfield prospects in baseball but he's striking out at a big rate though, (91/51 K/BB) and he's still pretty raw. Lee might be a top 100 prospect but he's probably a middle of the rotation arm because he doesn't have the secondary pitches to be a front of the rotation type.

                              2013 Trade Deadline Thread

@Ken_Rosenthal: Finally some movement on Norris: #Pirates, #Orioles, #DBacks in touch with #Astros, talks have accelerated in last hour.

This is gonna get good! I think Norris to Baltimore. They have to retaliate against us for Peavy! Also, Michael Young is willing to waive clause for Yankees, Red Sox, and Rangers.

EDIT: as of 2:22 Yankees have not heard Young will waive a trade to them.

I think the Padres got a steal getting Kennedy for a pair of relievers. The GM in San Diego was the GM of the Diamondbacks when he got Kennedy for them in that 3-deal with the Yankees and Tigers.
