Re: 2013 Trade Deadline Thread
You, I guess..among others.
I'm sure you know this, but when every scouting report refers to plus stuff, but with a smallish frame and a need to improve secondary pitches, that projects to be a high-leverage bullpen guy. This isn't news. Find me a reputable scouting report that doesn't mention him "needing to work on secondary stuff," having a "small frame," or the "bullpen seeming like a good fit" and you may have a point.
It's not a 100% certainty thing, but it's a projection-based argument. He could be a starter. In all likelihood though he's best suited as a closer down the road.
There's also the fact the Cardinals are actually using him in the pen now, although that means quite a bit less since a lot of starters begin that way.
If I've got a chance to deal a guy with maybe a 30% chance to start long term (with an effectiveness as of yet unknown) for an established vet like Peavy and make another run at the World Series, I do that deal every single time and twice on Sundays.
If it were Miller or Wacha, I'd be more hesitant.
I'd love to talk more, but it's really hard for me to not come off as condescending as you were. I'm not overrating Carlos Martinez. I stated mere facts. Feel free to lump me in some group of people who've yet to provide. I highly doubt I'm even close to whatever "hype" they've been throwing out for him.Comment

Re: 2013 Trade Deadline Thread
Nobody freak out but Alberto Callaspo was just pulled from the Angels game. What if it was a Red Sox-Angels trade going down?
I've heard that sound 3 times... once was Babe Ruth, the second was Josh Gibson, and the third was Bo Jackson- Buck O'Neil

Re: 2013 Trade Deadline Thread
Jon Heyman has an update. Saw this on MLBTR.
The Red Sox are in serious talks for Peavy, according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports (on Twitter).
The Red Sox are no longer pursuing Cliff Lee, according to Jim Bowden of ESPN and MLB Network Radio (Twitter link).
Also, the Athletics have acquired Alberto Callaspo.

I'm actually nervous about the White Sox trading Peavy to the Red Sox. The White Sox don't have any talent in their Farm System outside of Courtney Hawkins and if they get good players from the Red Sox it'll put them in contention sooner and as a Royals fan, that's not something I'm looking forward too.
On the other hand, they won't have a front of the rotation arm any more so I guess that's good too haha.

Whoa, whoa, hold the phone.
Ken Rosenthal just retweeted:
Sources tell @bradfo & me that Red Sox in advanced talks w/White Sox, Tigers on 3-way deal bringing Peavy to Boston.
Lil Miggy was pulled from tonight's game too so maybe he's part of this deal.
Jackie Bradley Jr. is not part of the deal according to MLBTR

Exec’s speculation: Peavy to BOS, Iglesias to DET (to cover for Peralta suspension) and A. Garcia to CWS. Just speculation at this time.Comment

Interesting.

@BNightengale
The #Phillies tried hard to grab Garcia from #Tigers, but now he's headed to #Whitesox with Iglesias going to Detroit and Peavy to #Redsox.
