I don't understand the Kennedy trade. Why would Arizona trade him and basically get nothing in return? Did I miss something and this personality driven? Is Kennedy hurt?

Norris would be a NIIICE pick up for the Buccos. It'd be nice to see the Pirates being a player in this process.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

The fact of the mater is that the closer has been one of the most valuable assets a team can posses. The A's got Josh Reddick in return for Andrew Bailey on the decline and the Rangers managed to get Mike Adams in return for two of the Rangers top 10 prospects in Robbie Erlin and Joe Wieland. If Greg Holland can put up these types of numbers then there's no reason he shouldn't fetch a better return than these guys.
I'm just not a big fan of giving up a ton for a reliever. Sure, Holland is putting up good numbers, but he's just a reliever.
And I'm not sold on the closer being such a valuable asset. Look at the Cubs, we signed Kevin Gregg to a minor leave deal, and for a stretch he was putting up fantastic numbers. There are a lot of guys who can come in and close games.Comment

Re: 2013 Trade Deadline Thread
All hypothetical, sure he does not have the ideal build, but if you're willing to trade for Peavy who is nearly the same size, then why knock another pitcher for the same build? As it stands now, yes the Cardinals are using him out of the bullpen and who knows if they believe he can start, but right now he's one of the top pitching prospects in baseball who is as unproven as can be, for better or for worse.
I'd love to talk more, but it's really hard for me to not come off as condescending as you were. I'm not overrating Carlos Martinez. I stated mere facts. Feel free to lump me in some group of people who've yet to provide. I highly doubt I'm even close to whatever "hype" they've been throwing out for him.
The White Sox got Avisail Garcia and 3 other prospects for Peavy...how do you think that compares to Carlos Martinez alone? I think it's in the ballpark personally.Chicago Cubs | Chicago Bulls | Green Bay Packers | Michigan WolverinesComment

What's wrong with Maxwell? I think he could be a good player in this league if given the chance. He doesn't have a sparkling average but he has a good eye and a good power/speed combination. Plus he mashes left handed pitching.MLB: St. Louis Cardinals

Re: 2013 Trade Deadline Thread
They also traded Kyle Smith for him and Smith is actually a legit prospect who projected out as a great #3 guy.
I've heard that sound 3 times... once was Babe Ruth, the second was Josh Gibson, and the third was Bo Jackson- Buck O'Neil

Re: 2013 Trade Deadline Thread
A left handed minor league pitcher and a Comp B draft pick are the other two pieces, allegedly. Love the deal. Hoes can hit for average and get on base at a good rate, but has very little power and is an average fielder. His value would've been much higher had he been able to stick at 2B.Comment
