Re: Rumored trade - Sori for Jose Reyes

One bad thing for the Mets if they make this trade is: Soriano is a free agent after this season, if for some reason they were not able to re-sign him they would be out Soriano and a potential star in Reyes, i would rather see the Mets keep Reyes and spend the money they would have to pay Soriano and try to get Magglio Ordonez or Carlos Beltran in the offseason.

And I hate to be the pessimist, but with or without Soriano this year, the Mets aren't making the playoffs. Does anyone in their right mind think they can beat out Philli, Florida, and Atlanta for the division title let alone the Astros, Cubs, and Giants for the wildcard? If you do then I congratulate you because that is true optimism and Mets will need a lot of that this year.

Keep Reyes, I don't think Soriano is going to get any better though playing in Arlington this year will mask that. He's 28 vs 20 and will be error prone in the outfield because his throws are erratic, so infield outfield he'll still be a liability. His home runs are nice and so are his steals but there's so much that goes with it its not funny. And 20 k's in 52 AB's in the post season is awful anyway you slice it. And Reyes has proven he is great defensively and has the speed to swipe 30 bases. Give him some time to develop at the plate at the big league level and I think he'll become a 18-20 homer guy which is pretty nice if he's batting lead-off or second. The NL East could have two of the game's premier second basemen in Giles and Reyes in the future.

I'm optomistic about the Mets every year, if I wasn't, then I don't deserve to be a fan! Did anyone think that Florida was going to be the Wild Card last year?? As a great person once said, that is why they play the games!

Not anymore. They did turn down the trade couple of hours after I reported the rumor, and see jordan006's post to get their response. Also, anything dce says about Yanks or their players(past & present) you should take with a grain of salt. Glad to see you did just that.
