Could be out until at least May or June.

Speaking of injuries, the Red Sox get Ellsbury back on Wednesday.

I don't know about studies but I think the common thought is that it doesn't.

But in this case it means the difference between playing the Tigers in a short series or the Rays/O's/Rangers.

I know every team is good but I will take any of those three over the Tigers in a short series because of pitching matchups any day of the week.

Orioles are finished after a 4 game sweep by the Rays, hope Machado will be ready for next year though.

Three versus the Yanks and three versus the Jays to end the year. Going 3-3 in those games should be enough to hang on to their wild card spot.

tbh, the Rays don't deserve to be in the playoffs or even play in Tampa. No attendance at all. If they don't have a full house for the WC game, they should relocate ASAP. This is ridiculous. I'm shocked they have enough money to stay in the Trop.

True I forgot about the seeding rules. Avoiding the Tigers in the 5 game set is ideal.
I don't think it's going to change anything much in the NL. The teams are too close in skill to matter.

What makes you think he'll be lucky if he has an average career?

Plenty of players suffer serious injuries and bounce back. Buster Posey is a great example of that.

It will take a while, but Machado will bounce back and play at the level he did this season IMO.

That's really terrible what happened to Manny, I hope he has a speedy recovery. He's a terrific young player, and one of the best 3b I have ever seen.

Posey was lucky to bounce back the way he did and it's no different with Machado.

It's a horrific injury and anyone would be lucky to bounce back from it and have success. I definitely hope you are right but he will be lucky to bounce back from this injury just like Posey was.

The Giants are 72-84 this year but they have the best attendance % in MLB this year.

By your logic, they should be in the playoffs, so I'll be sure to let the Atlanta Braves (19th in attendance % this year) know that they're staying home and we're sending the Giants to the playoffs in their place.

And the Cleveland Indians are DEAD LAST in attendance % this year, so where's the hate for them?

Yea, I left that post alone. Made no sense to me either.

Congrats to the Pirates on clinching a playoff birth.

Well deserved. I hope they can make it to the NLDS. I need to get that off my bucket list.

Joey Votto had a game I haven't seen before that I remember. 0-0 with 5 walks and a RBI.

I wonder if Barry Bonds ever did that when managers feared him at the height of his prowess.

Only one of Votto's five walks tonight was intentional. Bonds had a pair of 4 IBB games during the 2004 season (as well as an IBB with the bases loaded in 1998). Andre Dawson was once walked intentionally five times in a 16-inning game.
