Yep. Although my favorite commentary on the situation was the PTI guys. They even tried to say that Le Batard was responsible for Biggio not getting in. Even though his ballot clearly had Biggio on it. I laughed.

He had those two on his radio show yesterday and it made for fantastic entertainment.

Did Realli (sp) call them out on that?

          LeBatard was banned. Good.

I have no problem with that ruling. You just don't go giving out your vote like that.

I don't think anyone is surprised that Le Batard was banned. I know I'm not. But the fact that the BBWAA sees nothing wrong with the likes of Chass and Gurnick voting the way they do too, is ridiculous.

The process lost its credibility when guys like that were able to pull the stunts that they have without any repercussions. I applaud Le Batard for doing what he did and pointing out just how flawed the system has become. And shame on the writers like Heyman who stick up for the Gurnicks of the world who think they are above the game and process.

The problem is that while I have much more of a problem with what an idiot like Gurnick did, technically he didn't do anything wrong. He just voted like a moron. LaBatard passed the "rights" to his vote to another group entirely.

Technically, Le Batard didn't do anything wrong either. There's nothing in the BBWAA's constitution that prohibits crowd-sourcing your vote, and this isn't even the first time its been done.

Like I said, the sanctity of the voting process died a long time ago. I agree that he should have his vote stripped. But the problem I have is that the writers seem to think his actions undermine the process more than the likes of Chass and Gurnick. I just can't buy that.

He said that he would have been as dominating as Rivera if he only had to come in with the bases empty and only get three outs. Other guys of his day would have been equally as dominating too. The longer you're retired the better you were I guess.
Since all relievers are failed starters, that seems a petty thing of Goose to say.

As has been pointed out elsewhere, higher-ups in the BBWAA went out of their way to defend Bill Conlin and confirm his membership was in good standing after he had been accused in 2011 by 4 people (including his niece) of sexual molesting them as children. (Investigating police say the accusations were credible, but that the statute of limitations for laying charges had passed.)

                      The "ultimate privilege", indeed.

I thought the name sounded familiar so I googled him. Guy died today. Was he on the sports writers show with Lupica or Telander?

I remember Conlin best for this:

He knew it was coming, but I don't think he cared.

Deadspin has a vote lined up for next year in exchange for a donation to a charity. The vote will, once again, be more reasonable and logical than so many of the writers who retain their vote.
