Re: MLB Off-Topic
If Selig candidacy was up to the writers he wouldn't get in either. Selig was elected in 2017 and by that time the PED backlash was already in vogue. That plus the 1994 debacle would be enough to deny him.
I mean, even if you want to be generous and say that Selig was an "ok" commissioner why do "ok" commissioners get to enter the HOF? "Ok" players don't get in, this isn't the Hall of The Very Good it is the Hall of Fame.OSHA Inspector for the NBA.Comment

Who cares what his politics are after his career? Dude was a HOF on the field. The jaded views the BBWA hold over players are just stupid.Originally posted by Gibson88Anyone who asked for an ETA is not being Master of their Domain.

Re: MLB Off-Topic
I honestly think Bonds and Clemens get in next year.
I think the voters wanted to "punish" them by making them sweat it out the full 10 years.
I also don't think Schilling goes in next year. I mean, he just told every voter that their opinion doesn't matter to him.Boston Red Sox

Re: MLB Off-Topic
My ultimate question is, why do writers get to choose who gets in? No other sports league does this. If we want to make it about stats then a computer could do that, but the problem with that is someone like Jeter, who should be a first ballot HOF might not make it because what he did for the MLB, City of New York and the Yankee's franchise cannot be measured by stats.
Coming from a Jays fan I can't tell you how sick that just made me feel.Comment

Although it has its flaws, the alternative to writers' voting is the Veterans' Committee (or how the NHL picks Hall of Famers), which often boils down to, "Is this guy a buddy of mine?"Originally posted by Thrash13Dr. Jones was right in stating that. Re: MLB Off-Topic
Zero percent chance of Schilling, Bonds, or Clemens get in next year. Might be a long time for them.
It's the younger, stats-oriented guys who ignore the character clause. Most of the old-school "baseball men" are the ones voting against. I don't see the Veterans Committee being friendly to 'roider types (at least not until the teammates of the 'roiders are on the Committee).
My guess is somewhere down the road, someone who already got voted in will be exposed as a 'roider, and enough voters will think, "Well, if this guy got in, why wouldn't A-Rod?" and the dam will break, letting a lot of them in (again, once the Veterans Committee is comprised of their teammates or younger players).Originally posted by Thrash13Dr. Jones was right in stating that. Re: MLB Off-Topic
Heres a random fact I never knew.
Deion Sanders ended his baseball career with the Jays organization.
They signed him to a minor league deal in June 2001, he played in AAA, but Washington in the NFL had an issue with that and said his deal only says he can miss parts of NFL season if he's playing in the MLB. So he had to retire from baseball.
However, he retired from the NFL the next day...
Yes he did return a few years later to the NFL, but I wonder why he had to give up baseball if he retired from football. He probably would've been a September callup.Comment

Latest proposal is 154 games, season delayed by a month, and expanded playoffs
Passan just tweeted that as long as the government doesn’t shut things down, if there is no agreement reached then a 162 game season will start April 1. Seems the players have all the leverage hereLast edited by reyes the roof; 01-31-2021, 04:24 PM.Comment

The biggest thing I’m against is expanded playoffs. I can live with a 154 game season although I’d prefer it start sooner than a month lateComment
