the wildest stat I heard about Bad Henry, I heard on ESPN Radio, CBS Sports Radio and Fox Sports Radio: Aaron had more than 12 miles MORE in total bases than the second place player of total bases. Aaron 6856 - Musial 6134

How FanGraphs catapulted from ‘super nerd’ site to the baseball mainstream

Good article describing the history of how FanGraphs came to be and its influence in MLB's front offices.

I've always felt like out of baseball football and basketball, if one of the big 3 had one that most ''nerds'' gravitated to it would be baseball and it's love of numbers, and it's ability to have superstars with statures like such as Pedro Martinez, Jose Altuve et al, you don't have to be a great physical specimen, heck look at players like Terry Forster too.
I grew up in Alabama in the 1970's in the heyday of Bear Bryant, where football was/is king, but as a self-professed nerd, baseball has always been my passion. football is great and all, but it doesn't do it for me like baseball.
even as Bama fan, Bear and Nick Saban have nothing on the likes of Doug Flynn, Rafael Belliard or Juan Castro AFAIC.
no siree bob, no two ways about it, baseball just lends itself to us nerds.

Clemens and Bonds won't make it via the writers ballot. Lets see what the Veterans Committee does eventually.

All I know is, when we talk about the greatest players of all time, we will always be mentioning Bonds, Clemens, Rose, Ramirez, etc. Regardless of what the Hall of Fame wants to do.

I called it last year. I didnt see anyone going in.

2022 unless its Ortiz, I hope follows suit. I dont want to see any of the guys from this year's ballot, or besides Ortiz, not anyone new next year (A-Roid) going in.

kinda feel like they should have postponed any new voting this time, until after the 2020 class gets it's one more moment in the sun. but it worked out alright with no extra class of 21 to share the limelight with the class of 20. can't wait to finally see Jeter, Walker, Simba and Marvin enshrined this summer

If the writers are going to invoke a morality clause, then it has to be universal.

If this is what it will be going forward, they need to go through everyone elected, and kick out all the 'shady characters', we'll call them.

Bud Selig, prime example. PED users aren't getting in. So be it. The man responsible for ALL of it shouldn't be in either.

I agree with the notion that if Clemens and Bonds are going to be left out then Selig should be left out too, but Selig was voted in by the Veterans Committee while players get elected by the writers. A huge revolt would have to occur among the writers membership to even consider revoking Selig's membership and I don't see that happening.

And the thing about all that, who's to say guys currently playing or recent inductees won't get called out in decades for something we currently have no issue with, but maybe society changes in the future.

I'm sure theres guys in the HOF who if the things they did back then they did now, they'd be ripped by fans and media all the time. Whose to say common opinions people have now won't be deemed unpopular or controversial in 25 years?

But thats the consequence. It should be wrong to arbitrarily impose the rules.

How is it right that Selig is in? He oversaw the PED era in its entirety. He did nothing about it. It literally took government threats and hearings to end it. But the BBWA is going to block all PED users? Including a guy that can be argued as the best player ever, and the guy who won more Cy Youngs than anyone in history.

Schilling is blocked for political opinion? For not being a likable guy?... how many people in baseball history can we slap that label on?

                                Its just complete hypocrisy.
