Re: MLB Off-Topic
Not sure if it changes MLB records, or if they're just considering the Negro League the same way NBA considers the ABA, or NHL views the WHA and so on. A separate league that was on the same major league level as they were during that specific time period.Comment

Re: MLB Off-Topic
I read an article that said they might include some and not include others.
For example, they said Josh Gibson would now be tied with J.D. Martinez, Ray Lankford, and Earl Averill for 238 career Major League home runs. And Satchel Paige would now be tied with a few pitchers, including Dizzy Dean and Rick Porcello, at 150 Major League wins.
But if they included career batting averages, for example, then players such as Gibson would move into the Top 10 all-time, and push out players like Ted Williams and Babe Ruth.
It said MLB and Elias Sports Bureau would put serious time and effort into how to handle historic stats.Boston Red Sox

For things like batting averages, it should only count if they played a specific number of games. Not sure what the cutoff should be though. Ruth had over 8000 at bats, Williams over 7700. Gibson had almost 2000. Baseball reference says the cutoff is 3000 plate appearances, so Gibson wouldn't be part of the top 10 in that case based on current criteria.
Although they cant exactly nitpick on numbers either when guys from the 1800s and early 1900s are part of record books too when players had the most insane stats ever.Last edited by Majingir; 12-16-2020, 06:36 PM.Comment

Re: MLB Off-Topic
That and the fact that starters only have to itch 5 innings nowadays. I would love to see the increase in starters throwing over 98mph. I look at someone like Pearson. He was on a pitch count each game and knew that he only had to go for so long so why not let it all out.
I do agree, it is easier to teach control than it is to teach raw power.Comment

You don't hear it the other way as often where a guy hits his spots so often but doesn't have the power, and that's what the team is getting him to develop.Comment

Re: MLB Off-Topic
But more times than not you see a team bring in some guy because they know he already has the power, but just needs to work on his control.

Re: MLB Off-Topic
isn't the percentage of fastballs actually going down the last couple three years? maybe that's why so many homers are leaving the yard. pitchers throwing more junk instead of heat. maybe in this case quantity (of fastballs) would be better than quality (velocity of fastballs).
