    *shrug, just spitballing here*
Yeah it has gone way down. It probably does contribute to a degree. It's also contributed to the continuing rise in Ks, too

Random fact about Niekro, he's the first player to wear a Jays jersey who went into the HOF. Sure he only played for them for all of 3 starts, but it counts.

On this day in 1953, the Pirates and Braves completed the only 7-for-1 trade in MLB history.

            Braves got
            2B Danny O'Connell

            Pirates got
            3B Sid Gordon
            OF Sam Jethroe
            P Max Surkont
            4 other minor league pitchers

Danny O'Connell hit 39 home runs in his 10-year career.

            He slashed .260/.333/.351

This is incredibly random but, out of the 19,902 Major Leaguers all-time, there's only been one Mike Miller, and he only played in one game.

On the flip side, I wonder what's the most common name in MLB history?

Like guys with the same first and last name, but not related (so you can't say Ken Griffey, Vladimir Guerrero and so on)

I would have thought It'd be James (Jim) Smith but apparently that's almost but not quite as rare as Mike Miller *shrugs*

                            Re: MLB Off-Topic

I just saw that NHL will be having sponsored division names for this season. This comes after news that for this season only (I'd put this season only in brackets) they're allowing an ad on helmets.

So for example, we have a division like the Honda West Division. And a team like Dallas will have an AT&T logo on their helmet. Most common thing we've seen is the sponsor for each team being whoever owns their arena, but like Dallas, theres some who go a diff route.

NBA has added a permanent sponsor patch on jerseys, and having their minor league called the Gatorade League, though that was years ago.

Could MLB ever do a similar thing? I mentioned last ST that I could see MLB renaming the Cactus and Grapefruit league and just having them being sponsored names instead (this is a rather insignificant change which would bring in extra money for the league) And with the minors being shaken up, could we see a change like NBA did and just rename the minors? AAA,AA,A would still exist, but instead of PCL,FSL and so on, we just have sponsored names.

And a helmet ad for a single season I could see happening too since there won't be fans. Jays with a Rogers logo on their helmet, Rays with Tropicana logo on theirs and so on.

I know people hate when I mention random changes like these, but its something that will eventually be happening whether we like it or not.
