Thats been a big problem for the Ms over the years (absentee ownership; Nintendo of America.. is only America by name)

DiPoto has done a h@lluva job. The building blocks are there, at least in theory.

Its impossible to guess how tight the purse strings are though.

Nolan Arenado was a NO BRAINER for the Ms. Could have been their Terry Pendleton. And he was traded for a song and a prayer, considering the value he could have brought to this team.

I'd like to believe a guy like Epstein would make a move like that. But its just impossible to have any faith that the ownership group to do the right thing after all these years.

This is either a really good or bad idea.

We know radio broadcasters go into more detail when calling games since people watching obviously can't see the action. So will the audio feed be worse for them to listen to, or will the TV feed feel worse for viewers since the commentators will be talking way more? I feel it's probably the former.

Radio broadcasts seem to be declining. I dont imagine the number of people they get tuning in makes it worth it anymore to have separate broadcasts. If they lose some fans on the radio side, not as huge a deal to them most likely. Not like fans cant listen to games anymore, they just have the TV feed instead.

Everyone's different, but the only times I've ever listened to radio broadcasts are if I'm going somewhere when the games on, and it'll only be on for the duration of the drive. Could be 10 minutes, could be 40 minutes. Listening to the TV audio feed won't impact anything for me really.
You can always count on Rogers to cut corners. Naturally, they're blaming COVID-19 although there was no issue last year calling the games off monitors in Toronto.

I use to listen to a lot of Jays radio broadcasts in the car and I'm sure thousands of people listen while they're stuck in traffic all over the Hamilton-Toronto-Oshawa corridor (and on the GO Train).

I don't see how both broadcasts don't suffer. The TV announcers are going to have to go into details for the radio listeners that the TV viewers can see with their eyes and there are naturally going to be times the radio listeners won't have enough details.

The one good thing is that the Jays have a great TV crew in Shulman and Martinez.

I do think if it's successful that other teams will copy it.

Dont get me started on things Rogers is blaming on Covid to hide the fact that they just do certain things all the time.

But canadian radio broadcasting is taking a big hit. Bell got rid of a couple of their stations already. Not sure what the Rogers situation is, but I could see it happening eventually too. No need for regional sports radio networks in Canada. Just one which covers all sports is good enough. Hockey is only thing that had a need for regional coverage.

1st day of Spring Training is here!

MLB Network already running the 30 clubs in 30 days.

Yankees are up Sunday night, Jays Monday night!

I'm guessing/hoping their coverage of the Jays took place during their new training facility unveiling. Many great shots to get of that facility for the network (one of my faves is the setup they have with the life sized replica Jays banners they have at Rogers Centre, and right next to them are a few empty spots, obviously done on purpose).

52 years ago today, Mickey Mantle retired. at the time of his retirement he was third all-time in career homers. today he's barely in the top 20

Which is why comparing eras is always a ridiculous thing to do regardless the sport.

The game is so different now vs then, and has been so different in between Mantles era and the modern era too.

But despite that, he's still the all time leader in home runs among switch hitters. If there's one thing I'm surprised about this era is that we dont have more power hitting switch hitters. For all the things we see in modern baseball like pitchers who can start and be in the bullpen, or fielders who can play all over the field, a power hitting switch hitter is one I would've expected more of as well.

and then you throw in the fact they didn't lower the mound till after Mantle retired, I'm sure he could have at least approached 600 homers batting against pitchers throwing from todays mounds.

I hope I'm wrong, but I see expanded playoffs being accepted by the Players Union, so they can get the dh rule. Still not sure how I feel about the universal DH rule. Years ago I would have never wanted it, but now I'm becoming softer on the issue, I'd say I'm 60/40 against (which Is shocking to me) it.
