    Re: MLB Off-Topic

I think if you don't act then you are supporting the status quo and/or those in power (the status quo isn't necessarily a bad thing and it needs to be evaluated in a case-by-case basis).

In today's day and age (some) individuals pressure corporations to take positions in certain topics and corporations are free to act or not. In this case MLB felt is was necessary to act and like anyone they should be ready to face the consequences (if any).

But, there is no going back (maybe it could be reigned in a bit), corporations taking positions on controversial topics is going to be demanded by certain segments of the population depending on what side of a particular issue they stand on.

It is ironic that part of the segment that supported juridical persons having broad speech rights seem to be having second thoughts.

      Re: MLB Off-Topic

The MLB having the ASG in Atlanta was not them supporting the status quo. It was them having the ASG in one of the newest ballparks in a city that has tremendous fan support and it was going to celebrate the career of Hank Aaron.

Anyone who acts like the MLB had to act or they'd look like they support the laws is grasping at straws.

The irony in all of this is that the uproar caused the ASG to be removed from an area that had 50% AA business owners and moved into a city that has 90% caucasian business owners. All the crying about the ASG location did was hurt the business owners in and around Atlanta, nothing more.

Like I said before, I feel sorry for the business owners in the area who have been planning for this week for sometime now. The majority of them are likely against the laws and taking the weekend away from them hurts them more than the laws will.

I don't want to say too much more because its it's already feeling political enough. It is a touchy subject and you'll never convince me the MLB made the right move. They got involved in a political discussion when they didn't need to and they only hurt the community in and around Atlanta. Them leaving the game there was not them supporting the status quo. That's such a simple take to have. Not every single corporation, business, individual, etc. has to do something to show they don't support something. I doubt everyone in here goes out of their way daily to show how much they despise racism. It's common sense that the average person knows that is bad. It should have been common sense to know the MLB isn't supporting racism by hosting the ASG in GA.

        Re: all-star game

ya know, Bud Selig was almost on to something with the all-star game when he had the winning league have home field advantage in the WS, but what he should have did was, going into the game, each league nominates a city to hold the next years all-star game and the league that wins the game, their nominated city gets the all-star game the next year

I dont think they need to nominate someone, but I think the ASG winning league should get to host the following years ASG.

Sure, it still doesn't mean so much for players, but knowing theres a 1 in 15 chance of your team hosting the game next year might be a small incentive. I mean there was a 1 in 15 shot as well of your team making the WS too with home field.

            Re: MLB Off-Topic

With the Jays likely going to Buffalo in June, the AAA Buffalo Bisons announced they'll be playing their games in Trenton.

The Trenton Thunder were in AA for 40 years before MLBs changes to the minors and they got demoted to being in some collegiate league.

The weird part of this, for all home games the Bisons will be wearing Trenton Thunder jerseys.

Do we call them the Trenton ThunderBisons?

I know the Jays didnt do it last year and so far not this year, but I'm guessing they won't have any special logo or look for the Dunedin or Buffalo games? I know the Raptors made up a Raptor palm tree logo for their stay in TB (that's only used for local things).

I think it's a hilarious lie when reading about it, but I don't like how it defames West when it in fact is a lie.

Reminds me of Joe Morgan fibbing around, with this one being my particular favorite.

"I guess I can tell this story now, one of my great experiences when I was a young player. Don Wilson was pitching a no-hitter against the Atlanta Braves. They had Orlando Cepeda, Rico Carty, Felipe Alou and Hank Aaron, of course. And they got to the ninth inning, he got two outs, no one on base, and Hank Aaron was the hitter. And in my infinite wisdom, I ran in to the mound. I said, 'You know, it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world if Hank Aaron walked right here. He said, 'Get back to second base.' I proceeded to go back to second base. He threw three fastballs right by Hank Aaron. No-hitter."

Charming, right? And, alas, very likely an utter crock. This would've been June 18, 1967, Joe's third full season in the bigs. That Braves team did indeed feature Hank Aaron, Felipe Alou and Rico Carty — though not Cepeda, who was in St. Louis that year. And Wilson did indeed throw a no-hitter, striking out Aaron to end the game. None of that's the problem. The problem, as a tipster points out, is that Joe Morgan wasn't playing that day. Look at the box score. The Astros' second baseman was Julio Gotay. Morgan, who was probably hurt, hadn't played since June 3. He would pinch-hit the next two games, then return to the lineup June 21.

Seems like Springer will be out until April 27th now. Thank goodness Grichuk is filling in at center and excelling so far.

As long as he is performing like this he has to stay in the lineup when Springer comes back.

Atlantic League adding 2 new "experimental rules" this year:

"Double-hook" rule for the DH, meaning that once your starting pitcher comes out you lose the DH

And they are moving the mound back 1 foot for the 2nd half of the season. As a former college pitcher myself, I am very much opposed to this one.

I don't see a need to move the mound back at all.

                              However, the "DHDH" sounds interesting.

Teams start a game with the DH, but once the SP is out, the DH is also out and either the reliever bats, or they use a pinch hitter.

Would teams leave in their SP longer? Do more double switching?

This would definitely eliminate the opener role that teams like the Jays and Rays have utilized.

Cool for the league, but I'm not trying to look for this to come to the MLB, personally. I don't want the AL to change what they're doing (except allow the hitter to be for any defensive player and not necessarily just the pitcher, which no one is likely to exercise except the Angels).
