Anyone else get a college baseball vibe looking at that uniform?

It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.

Interesting note during the hockey games tonight which involves baseball.

The Fenway Sports Group (who own the Red Sox) had interest in a merger with the owners of the Leafs/Raptors. The interesting thing here is that one of the companies with a stake in that ownership group for the Leafs/Raptors is Rogers, who of course owns the Jays.

If all that went down, would the MLB allow basically the same company to own multiple teams?

They have missed the memo that FSG just bought the Penguins this week so they won't be buying another NHL entity at this point.

That may be why any interest with Toronto would have fallen through. I know when Billy Beane was going to become a part of the group he was going to have to step down from the A's due to conflict of interest so I don't think they'd be allowed to have any sort of a stake in multiple teams in the same sport.

The interest was before their interest in the Pens. Sounds like it might have been from right before or during early days of the pandemic.

But that's probably the most likely outcome. If that group did go through with the merger, Rogers would have to choose to completely sell the Jays, or sell off their stake in Leafs/Raptors.

Wouldn't be surprised if that's why this all fell through. No way Rogers sells the Jays outright, and no way they're giving up stake in an NHL/NBA team given how their major money comes from TV/Internet.

Latest proposal from the league is a 14 team playoff.

So top team in each league gets a BYE.

2nd best division winner gets to choose who they play in the WC round which would be a 3 game series. The other division winner then gets their pick, and remaining 2 teams are the 3rd matchup for that round.

The PA seems to think this would reduce incentive for teams to go for it since you don't need to be the elite team to have a shot, but I think it's the opposite. More teams have a shot, so more owners would be willing to spend on guys. And the more teams who are in a playoff race, the more fans that will be going to games to watch meaningful baseball.

There are two ways to look at it. You're saying that basically bad teams may look at their situation and think that they are just 1 player away, since 46% of teams make the playoffs in this scenario which could happen. However, the other perspective is also true, where 46% of teams know that they only have to be mediocre in order to make the playoffs. Why get involved in an roster arms race when 80 wins might be good enough to get you to the playoffs where you are guaranteed at least 1 home playoff game, and you only have to be better than the rest of the league for 1 month in order to win it all

I don’t think expanded playoffs will help with increasing spending, the problem is the handful of teams that will never spend no matter what. Oakland is in the playoff hunt every year but they won’t ever be big spenders.

I'm so against expanded playoffs. Gotta love that slippery slope. Expand to one Wild Card then it becomes two wild cards. Now we're adding even more teams.

Money talks though. What they need to do is get rid of about 6 teams.

I am starting to feel old...all of this type of talk just makes me cranky. No more playoff teams...I am starting to want to just go back to two divisions per league with two playoff teams in each league.

Same. Can't ever leave a good thing alone. I still like baseball. Doubt that will ever change. But I don't love it like I used too. More into football and basketball now. Never thought I'd see the day honestly. Baseball was always King.

I love baseball, but the MLB keeps kicking me in the sensitive region with their changes.

Reports coming out the MLB was using multiple different balls throughout the year and not telling organizations.

I wouldn't be surprised. I remember earlier this year or last year when we had a discussion in this thread about the MLB changing balls behind the scenes.
