Damn Tatis. All that talent but no wisdom to go along with it. What a shame.

I don’t think they have a chance now, but he’ll most likely do something stupid during his suspension like get in another motorcycle wreck that might open the door for the Padres to void it

I wonder what it would take for MLB to have a team void a deal, or if that's even possible. Would the PA allow it?

I think the only way would be if there is some sort of behavior provision in the contract like no motorcycles or anything else that could be deemed reckless or if he had a non baseball injury

Holy crap fellas, he's 23! It's only an 80-game suspension. There's still a very good chance he spends most of the next decade with a .950 OPS.

No, let's trash him and act like he's the first athlete to make off - field mistakes. Not a big MLB fan, but the responses to the news of his suspension in here are ridiculous.

The Padres could have done it as soon as he got in the motorcycle accident. Tatis got so lucky that under the lockout, he was not technically bound to those terms i the same way he would have been if the league had not been locked out during the offseason. In fact, we found out later on it wasn’t even his first motorcycle accident

They should absolutely use this as a reason to void the contract. This is a guy who has no problem breaking every rule now that he has the money in place that he wants. Can’t give too much star treatment or you’ll lose respect from the stars that are actually on the field (Machado, Soto, Musgrove, Bell)

meh, he's an adult. I'm not saying give him the ol' Shoeless Joe treatment, but no reason to mollycoddle Tatis either.
if you're gonna do the crime, you gotta expect to do some time in the court of public opinion.
all other athletes making off-field mistakes and getting caught went through the ringer too,
no need to start giving free passes now. he'll make it through this well enough
and if he's smart, he'll learn a valuable and much needed life lesson:
either don't get caught doing stupid ****,

He’s also a Major League Baseball player who is given a list of approved and not approved substances that he can put in his body. He also has access to a team trainer to help him if he feels he needs something in regards to medicine or whatnot.

And he’s paid millions of dollars by an organization who entrusts that he will follow the guidelines set forth by both the league and players association.

The motorcycle accident you chalk up to being young, this you chalk up to failing to uphold his obligation to the organization and being unworthy of the trust and investment the organization put in him.

I don’t agree with the idea of voiding his contract but he’s not free of criticism for his actions in this situation.

This quote is incredibly loaded with between-the-lines dialog.

Fernando Tatis Jr. tested positive for Clostebol, a performance-enhancing substance, and will miss the remainder of the season.

Preller said he found out about the suspension late Friday afternoon. He said he hadn't spoken yet to Tatis, but had seen his player's statement.

"Again, that's his story," Preller said. "I haven't had a chance to talk to him about it yet. Ultimately that's his explanation. I think the biggest thing just from our standpoint, from a baseball standpoint, there's a drug policy in place. He failed a drug screen. For whatever reason.
Preller is calling out Tatis hard here. It sounds like he's saying Tatis got caught and is fabricating the reason.

I'm not saying to cuddle him or anything like that. Whether someone agrees or not the MLB has a list of banned substances and he used one.

I'm just saying that people are overreacting about antics that plenty of high - end athletes have made. Again, you can disagree but that's just how I read these last few comments.

Hopefully Tatis Jr. matures and grows from all these incidents and now this suspension. Otherwise, he'll end up like Canseco and other types (in all major sports) that didn't mature after making several mistakes.

Well, his HoF hopes are dead lol. Funny to say that with a straight face about a 23 year old, but it is what it is.

Whether it was an accident or not, he's 1/3 of the way to a lifetime ban. Pretty serious stuff.

First thing I thought of was, "wut?", then I thought "at least we know the MLB PED program is working; no bias or favor"

Also, what's with any time someone with a humongous contract does something wrong some fans go pretty quickly to "voiding" the contract? You know that the contract clause is one of the main pillars of American society, no? Settle down.

I see you Preller, you signed this contract and so far you have gotten 7.3fWAR, but also a motorcycle accident and an 80 game suspension, the heat is on on you.
