Back in 2004, there was a line in Caesar's Palace to pay to get a photo/autograph with him, or something of the sort. Not wanting to pay for anything, I just went up and said: "Mr. Rose, it would be an honor if I could just shake your hand." I stuck my hand out, he said thanks and shook it, and I walked away happier about life.

Rest in Peace. Put him in the Hall.

The National Hall of Fame & Museum displays memorabilia from Rose, Bonds, Shoeless Joe, etc. They just don't have plaques, which TBH are the least impressive part of the Hall.

The HoF should induct Joe Jackson first and they can enshrine Rose in about ten years. Its tasteless to accept him immediately after death given his circumstances, and I felt the same way after the despicable way the football HoF did the Raiders Ken Stabler , waiting until he died to '' honor'' him. It comes off more like a pity induction in my opinion. As for Rose , a couple more things . Every player should have to bet on their team. If they did, would that minor leaguer a couple weeks ago been so willing to lose his paycheck just to end the season? And with Charlie Hustle, you never had to worry about pace of play with him. Every player should sprint to first after a base on balls like Rose. My 2¢.

I think if he bet on every game, it wouldn't be as bad. If he selected games to bet on, whether for his team or not, it can come off as when he is choosing to give it his all for his team versus not.

Now, I don't remember... did he bet as a player? I remember only knowing at the time that he had bet on the game as a manager, but I think it came out in more recent years that he also bet as a player.

I seem to recall he bet on games as a player. I don't know if was when he was a player-manager or before the Reds hired him to manage.

Also, I don't have a problem with him not betting on every game because I see too many players now who don't give their all, as it is. And it's been that way before Rose played, or was even born. I've heard people say he would handle his bullpen differently and which position players would rest on games he bet on , to that I say hooey. The scrubs were still trying to win even if they weren't any more capable than this years White Sox. Now that I think of it, maybe all of the 2024, 120 plus loss, White Sox should be banned for life too lol.

New documents obtained by Outside the Lines indicate Rose bet extensively on baseball -- and on the Reds -- as he racked up the last hits of a record-smashing career in 1986.

                  Re: MLB Off-Topic

It's weird reading an article like that from 9 years ago, and seeing how the views on gambling have changed. Feels like that's from 50 years ago. Back then it was still kind of wild to think of professional athletes betting on pro sports. The fact that they brought up him betting on NBA and college basketball, it just doesn't hit the same anymore. That's not even illegal now. He could have legally bet millions on NBA games and it'd be just fine.

That door has been pulled open, and we're seeing younger generations not even really understanding the problems with players betting on their own sport and/or team (unless it's to lose, I guess). That's what happens when you engage in these business relationships and you eliminate the clear cut separation. Old mindsets lose all credibility and relevency.

I was gonna say, baseball is in some uniquely bad situations here. They'll never go back to the days of not airing/streaming every game somewhere (I'm assuming), but the fact that that idea even came to my mind is pretty bad.
