And there have been a grand total of 2 players who have been one vote shy of unanimous election - Ichiro and Jeter.

The guy who didn't vote for Jeter thought that he wasn't eligible yet (or so he claims).

He's a 75-year-old hack from San Diego who's either a moron or still bitter about 1998 (both plausible). I imagine the reason for Ichiro's snub is something similarly dumb.

It's probably going to be something stupid like it's a writer from Oakland who didn't even submit a ballot because they didn't realize they were still voting even though the team doesn't exist there anymore.

I hope we do see it implemented as soon as possible.

However, sounds like robot umps will only be for challenges and not the pitch by pitch calls like people hoped for. But it's a start.

The article mentioned that challenges only added 17 seconds of extra game time. I'm guessing this means challenge results are automatic, like in tennis?

So the representative for Puerto Rico in the Caribbean Series are the Indians of Mayagüez. So is MLB Network going to blurred that or what?

Lol, maybe they need to have MLB The Show blurred too, the Indianapolis Indians.

EDIT - Put the heat on Pittsburgh for affiliating with them.

Don't like these uniforms, same problem when the All-Star Game went with generic uniforms instead of each team unique uniforms.

Former MLB Commish Fay Vincent passed away.

Anyone who remembered him/that era of baseball want to expand on if he was a good or bad Commish?

Reading a summary on him, was he as bad as he sounded.

He was the Commish who ruled on Pete Rose, banned Steinbrenner, let Joe West walk free after he slammed Dennis Cook on the field (West was suspended by the NL president but Vincent rescinded it), wanted to remove the DH, oversaw the 1990 strike, was in favour of division realignment, and of course ousted in 92, just 2 years before the 94 strike.

Sure..his "friend" bet on his account. Because it's so common in the world of sports betting to be sharing an account with friends......Definitely not the only official in pro sports who likely does bet on games.

Major League Baseball fired umpire Pat Hoberg for sharing betting accounts with a friend who wagered on games, the league announced Monday. There's no evidence that Hoberg bet on baseball or influenced any games that he worked, MLB said. However, Hoberg did delete messages that were pertinent to its investigation."The disciplinary action was taken due to Hoberg's failure to uphold the integrity of the game by sharing sports betting accounts with a professional poker player and friend who bet on baseball and whom Hoberg should have known bet on baseball, and due to Hoberg's intentional deletion of messages central to MLB's investigation into his conduct," the league's statement said.Hoberg was disciplined last June for violating the league's gambling rules. He subsequently appealed the decision to MLB commissioner Rob Manfred.MLB said Hoberg's friend made 141 baseball bets between April 2, 2021 and Nov. 1, 2023, equaling almost $214,000, per The Associated Press."I take full responsibility for the errors in judgment that are outlined in today's statement (by MLB)," Hoberg said, according to ESPN's Jesse Rogers. "Those errors will always be a source of shame and embarrassment to me."The 38-year-old didn't umpire a game during the 2024 season as the situation was under review. Hoberg regularly umpired MLB games beginning in 2017 and worked as part of the crew that officiated the 2022 World Series.Hoberg is eligible to apply for reinstatement but can do so no earlier than the start of spring training in 2026.
