You can't have an uneven amount of teams in MLB. Requiring one team to be off every day would not only be a scheduling nightmare but the regular season would run into next seasons Spring Training.

It's one of the 30 most populated cities in the USA. More populated than places which have teams already in multiple sports(KC,Milwaukee,Atlanta,Miami,Minnesota,Clevel and and so on). So thought is probably just that if smaller markets are able to support multiple franchises, Vegas surely can support one or more.

And being one of the big tourist destinations, along with just having locals going to games, they probably think tourists will go to Vegas and going to a pro sports game would be part of the things they do when going to Vegas.

And then having all those business people probably going and buying season tickets and likely giving it away to people or including it as part of a hotel package or something like that.

In NHLs case, it seems more like they just want to be first. Hearing talks of other sports considering it, it seemed like NHL had their eyes on Vegas before even finding out if there was an owner who wanted to bring a team there. Similar situation for Seattle(where the NHL commish took an indirect shot at Seattle for their owners not being able to come up with a bid for expansion team),cause they had a city in mind before any owner expressed interest.

I never thought I'd see the day I actually rooted for the Mets.

Wait, what? There is no way Joe Jackson's situation was more egregious than Rose's. There is actually question as to if Jackson did anything at all...Rose has ADMITTED to betting on baseball, and based on the investigation more than likely did bet against his team. He also likely had mob ties, never good with a pro sport.

I really can't think of anyway that Jackson's situation was worse than Rose's...and if Jackson WAS trying to throw the WS he did a poor job. Look at this stats!

Yep...that's what I thought about Jackson. That it was never proven and going by his stats that it was not more likely than likely that he didn't participate in the throwing.

Population doesn't matter as much as media market size and there is no metro area around Vegas to speak of, unless people are living in the desert. Vegas is 42nd in the media market size department on the list I looked up, right between Norfolk and Harrisburg so it's obviously a real media cash cow....

Aside from that, I disagree with about 100% of your reasoning. NOBODY is making Vegas a destination to watch an expansion baseball team that they don't root for normally. Is there a shortage of other activities? lol.

Vegas is also too transient of a place to have a well-rooted-in fan base. The only way people make watching the Las Vegas Professional 51s a part of their vacation itinerary is if they build a stadium that's the 8th Wonder of the World or part baseball facility/part casino (lol, the look on Pete Rose's face) and even that's not going to be sustainable after the first year or two.

And we haven't even addressed the gambling issue. Mark my words, Vegas will never get an MLB baseball team and the fact that gambling is only about 3rd on the list of reasons why not, you can bank on it never happening.

And, furthermore, who that actually lives in Vegas would even buy tickets? There's a ton of low-paid service workers...pimps, prostitutes, dancers, caterers, casino workers, restaurant workers...that would probably rather use their disposable income to gamble. Sure there are a few big wigs/entrepreneurs who may get a corporate suite or season tickets, but probably 99% of the affluent people are just passing through. You can't support a team without that middle and lower class of fans filling most of your stadium and buying most of your merch and pinging your website every day.

Well, I don't think the gambling factor will be that big of an issue going forward, gambling will probably be legalized in 1 or more additional states in the next 10 years.

No, it's a huge issue and will remain oil to baseball's water. Until gambling is legalized at the federal level (re: never), baseball cannot co-exist with it.

There were an uneven amount of teams in each league for a long time and it worked fine. I never really understood why it was like that, but there didn't seem to be any major issues.
