Crazy to think that there are now GMs in the game who are significantly younger than the on field managers.

Hardly! This trend dates as far back as the strike season.

I just now saw the dude is 30! Sounds like a good hire, this Offseason will be very interesting to see what kind of moves he makes.

                  Can't wait to be honest.

4 very good analytics departments on the NL Central now... and the Reds. I hate my favorite team.

From 2000 on during the Pujols Era (Est. 2001), the Cardinals played .560 baseball, which was best in the NL.

After the Pujols Era (2012-present), the Cardinals have played .575 ball, which is tops in baseball.

I'm sure there are several precedents with teams losing a Hall of Fame caliber player and getting better, but I remember thinking Pujols leaving was going to hurt St. Louis badly at the time. Crazy to think they've gotten even better instead.
                          This is a great stat...but...

The difference in sample sizes should be noted...as should the fact that, in at least one of those "w/Pujols" years, he missed a good bit (iirc)

But that sample size...over the course of those first 15 years, there were some really good Houston, Chicago, and Milwaukee teams. The competition in the division--while coming around this year---i don't think has been quite as consistently strong.

Nonetheless, still surprising. Chalk it up to better SP, too?

Can somebody explain the logic of expanded rosters? Why doesn't MLB just continue on with the 25 man rule, etc. until the end of the regular season?

Minor league season ends and those who performed well get their paid dues to get a crack at the big league level, and every MLB player will need a day off time to time, particularly those who aren't racing for a playoff spot.
