      Took them long enough IMO.

McClendon might as well be fired now too.

Good that they finally did it, but nothing's going to change until ownership/Howard Lincoln are gone. The mediocrity will continue as long as they're around.

          So I have a question.

Would you rather have (these are purely examples):

          • SP with a 1.15 WHIP, sub/3.00 ERA @ 225 IP
          • RP with a 0.90 WHIP, sub/2.00 ERA, LOB% 90% @ 81 games

I'm starting to lean towards the RP now...I would rather have a guy that can impact 1/2 of my season's games and potentially shut down any rallies.

This is beyond the point, but:

I don't buy into the mindset that the closer must be the best RP...I actually think the best RP should be the 8th-inning guy as the lineup usually turns to be the top of the order in the 8th. Regardless, I think assigning pitchers "innings" is non-sense...allow the situation to dictate the pitcher whether a K is needed, GB, stop damage, etc.

It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.

What you say about the "8th inning guy"/set up man is actually the prevailing wisdom from a lot of baseball people i've heard over the last couple years. The 8th inning guy is the one that usually has the more high leverage situation to deal with.

Regarding assigning pitchers inning as being nonsense well, I think relievers especially, are creatures of habit. They want to know generally when they're going to pitch as they build a routine around it so just throwing any guy out there willy nilly might seem like a great idea all the time it sometimes isn't. That being said, when the Jays had a very shaky bullpen with no consistent set up guy John Gibbons would sometimes bring in Roberto Osuna to get the 4 or sometimes even 5 out save. So sometimes it becomes a necessity to do stuff like that.

Speedy,I'd go with starter. Cause its much harder to put together a good consistent rotation vs good consistent bullpen. Good rotation = 7-8ip on average from them, meaning you might only need on average of several relief innings a series. Good bullpen with bad rotation doesn't mean as much, since bullpen is basically just a bandaid type thing(stopping the bleeding caused by bad sp).

Happy to see Jack Z go. Hopefully we get a new GM in early October and he fires McClendon.

                            What makes you so sure?

The new GM will be the one who makes the decision on Lloyd.

Even if they're peaking too soon offensively the pitching is good enough to carry them. I can't see them reverting back to the team that can't score runs to save their lives. That lineup can produce some runs IMO.
