    Re: MLB Off-Topic

The new information that arose this year doesn't hold well over for me, but I think I'd still like to see him in. Before June or July or whenever, it was a no-brainer... now it's a little more feuding, but he was a great player, and apparently the HOF is filled with many cheaters and scumbags. So why not the all-time hits leader?

Good job by Manfred. Maybe after he is 8 feet below dirt MLB can revisit the issue.

Rose just doesn't get it, unfortunately. His personality and social skills won't allow him to ever come across as truly apologetic for his actions. He can't even fake it, which is what he would be doing, because i doubt he's truly changed all that much.

Still think he should get in as a player, but I don't blame people for thinking that's crazy.

Have no problem with people not wanting him near the game at this point but he is one of the best hitters of all time. Should be in the HOF.

Pete Rose is better off financially left out the HOF. It's the biggest part of the allure that brings in all that money from signings. Being allowed in could kill a large chunk of that for him. Sure, he would love to be in, but there are perks to being left out.

Rose made his own bed with the incessant lying. If he had just come clean to begin with, he'd be in by now. But after lie after lie after lie after lie after lie, I hope he never gets in, no matter how great a player he was.

He should be in the HOF when he eventually dies. Lifetime ban is a lifetime ban, so I'm glad they are upholding it. That way his stats can be honored, but he doesn't get his HOF moment.

Kind of how I see it too. We all know he's a HOF'er based on pure numbers. It's just the formality of officially inducting him, which would be mostly just cool for him and his family. But we all know he belongs whether he's officially in or not.

Being out has kept him and his name around the game far longer then his stats. It's why this conversation comes up once or twice a year. He'll continue to book his signings and this discussion will happen maybe even forever.

Personally, I'm glad Rose didn't lie about continuing to bet on baseball. I mean, seeing him as an analyst on TBS, the way he talked, it seemed obvious he was more invested then just as a spectator. That's the feeling I got at least. And I'm glad that baseball isn't budging for even one of the greatest hitters of all time. Although betting on games seems old school nowadays, it was/is the golden rule of baseball and he violated it. Rules are rules, especially this rule, whether you're a nobody or the hit king.

Tough decision by the commissioner today, but sadly the right one. If Pete had tried harder to get help and was atleast not still betting on the game that cost him the game of baseball then maybe he gets back in the game he loves.

As for the HOF I do think as long as guys that cheated the game are allowed to be elected then both Pete and Shoeless Joe should be allowed on the list. Dont mean they would get the votes to get in, but they should have the same privlege as those like Bonds that cheated the game. As we have seen even those guys arent getting in like Bonds, so let the voters choose. Sadly we all know Pete is a HOF'er but even if he was allowed on the ballot there is actually a good chance he wouldnt get in jyts based on what he did.

I've run into Pete Rose on a few occasions here in Vegas. He lives here and he's always at the sportsbook at the Mandalay Bay.

Not surprised he was denied admission. Also not surprised he was actually honest about gambling on a regular basis. He never really tries to hide when he's in the casino out here.

Didn't know you lived in Vegas man. I was out there last month. Wish I would have known.

Yeah I travel back and forth from Vegas and Phoenix, but I mostly reside in Vegas on a regular basis.

When I was 16 years old, he was charging for autographs outside of Caesar's Palace. I just walked up to him, and said, "Mr. Rose, I was wondering if I could just shake your hand."

He said, "Hey, sure thing," and shook it. I said, "I appreciate you," and walked away.

                            Nice guy, in my book.

                              He still charges for autographs.

I'm not saying he's a bad guy. In my experiences he's been very nice, but he's all about the money. Always has been and he always will be.

I know haha, I was kidding. I'm just saying he could have never shaken my hand, or he could have charged me for it. Good man for not thinking twice and just being human for me. I really did appreciate it.
