I believe it was already inevitable that baseball was going to crack down on steroids, regardless of who was indicted in the report. Even so, most of the players listed were already suspected.

It did sort of vindicate Canseco's claims...at least somewhat.

Just a couple '90s what ifs to ponder
I don't recall Randy Johnson being suited by Toronto? That would've been interesting...perhaps then, baseball in Seattle would be long gone (since they obviously wouldn't have made the playoffs in 1995).

It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.

I never knew about Johnson in Toronto. But they got Fernandez instead of him. Really, seeing what Jays did end up doing in the mid-late 90s,I wouldn't have been too confident they'd have kept him long term. By time Jays started putting together good team again(during the start of the Yankees domination in AL East and Red Sox climbing close to top as well), that was Johnsons peak, and if he hit his peak around same time still,Jays would've let him walk probably since they were real cheap at the time and didn't really pay anyone alot.

So at least Tony Fernandez came in,even if he didn't help,he still got to win a WS with the Jays, after being such a big part during the 80s.

Blog article (it's sourced so this isn't some fan's wet dream)

If you don't want to read it the trade would've been Mike Timlin and Steve Karsay for Johnson.

Hunter never played for the A's but I have just loved watching his career and have a ton of respect for him. I'm happy he's going out now (maybe a year or two late) and wish him the best of luck in the future.

My AAU coach in high school played with Hunter in the Twins minor leagues and they are very good friends. One year when the Twins came to Tampa, Hunter brought the entire team seats behind the dugout, and we were able to walk through the locker room before the game. He also brought us new uniforms, cleats, and bags. Instantly became one of my top 5 athletes.

Hunter was a damn fine all around ballplayer who later became a great leader in the clubhouse. I can see him managing in the future if he so chooses. Even though he may have retired a year or two too late at least he got to do so with the team he's most known for playing on.

Can't find an online article on it, but Lenny Dykstra just said on The Herd that he used to blackmail umpires by hiring private investigators to dig up dirt in them.

Pretty much. At the same time though, I like stories like this because it really drives home how imperfect and potentially tampered every game and every season has been through the years. Not just the "steroid years." Although I'm sure guys like Bob Costas would prefer to believe he is lying, for the sake of their sanity lol.

Torii had a nice career, and will always be one of my favorite players on the field. I'll leave it at that.
