It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.

Too lazy to look it up: is that '03 season from DET the worst season in baseball history?

No...the 1962 Mets hold the actual record for futility (42-120), but the mid-1960's Mets were probably even worse. The 1899 Cleveland Spiders were awful as well. Detroit is in the conversation, but not the worst.

Yeah that was the year Detroit started 1-17 and won 5 of their final 6 to narrowly avoid the 120 loss record

I remember the Twins doing everything but putting the ball on a tee that last series to let the Tigers avoid the record.

The 1962 Mets had a higher team WAR than the 2003 Tigers because Detroit's position players were worth -1.2 WAR.

Fun fact #2: the Tigers didn't even have the worst offense that year in terms of runs scored per game. The Dodgers scored fewer runs per game. Granted, there's a DH vs. pitcher hitting component to that, but yeah, wow.

It's crazy to think as bad as Tigers were that year, it'd take just 3 years for them to go from that, to making it to the World Series.

How embarrassing for other teams that must be lol. A team that was one of the worst in the history of baseball, was able to turn things around in a 3 year timespan, while so many others took longer,if they ever were able to do so.

                          Toronto fans...

Do you have any good news articles/info on the team looking into installing infield dirt and grass? I don't understand why they don't do the exact same thing that STL did for the old Busch stadium?

If you search "toronto installing infield dirt and grass" in either google or yahoo you will come up with a bunch of hits to good articles.

The main reason it hasn't been done is because of their other tenant the Argos in the CFL. They'll be leaving for BMO field in 2016. There are other factors such as installing a drainage system which may require major construction as they'd need to lower the base of the stadium further into the ground.

Apparently the other major stumbling block to real grass is the air circulation system, both in terms of mechanical ventilation infrastructure, and the physical architecture of the Dome.

Anyway, the University of Guelph, which is near Toronto, and pretty much Toronto A&M, is handling a lot of the science and tech development for the project. They've even got multiple model sites set up where they do everything from seeing how hard it is to kill different hybrid grass fields to simulating the wear and tear of 162 game baseball season
