Re: MLB Off-Topic
Ya, Gibbons should be suspended since he did break a rule, but how does Sanchez get fined/suspended but not a single Royals player gets it?
Volquez admitted he hit Donaldson intentionally, and mocks him as well for that, but he gets nothing. Royals hit one of Jays best players AFTER a warning was given, and nothing happens. 2 other times a pitch came within a few inches of drilling Donaldson in the head....nothing happens.
1 Jays pitch which grazes Escobar on his leg..lets suspend/fine Sanchez.
Royals involved in a bench clearing incident with a 3rd team in a span of 4 months(1 with CWS,I think 2-3 with the A's? Now 1 with Jays), so how does reputation not come into play here? Royals are known this season for getting into these incidents, so how are they not getting in trouble at all...Comment

Dombrowski post-mortem:
Helped turn one of the laughingstocks in all of sports into a contender despite going against the conventional method of building a succesful baseball team these days, should be in possession of permanent ownership papers of the Marlins because he skull****ed them not once but twice, gave out some horrendous contracts (and ironically saw this team's championship window get slammed shut because he couldn't give out one more), and ultimately fell short of the goal set forth by the owner.

Re: MLB Off-Topic
Well, it was pretty clearly intentional to me, and that's fine, since he had every right to retaliate and that's the way you're supposed to do it.
It's ridiculous that KC could throw near Donaldson's head three times and get away with it.I write things on the Internet.

I half suspect that it would've taken Donaldson or Tulo getting injured in order for KC to be punished.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: MLB Off-Topic
Volquez did hit Donaldson on purpose the first time to me. The second one near his head. Madson hitting Tulo and then Madson almost hitting Donaldson were completely accidental. You arent hitting a player with a change up. And you cant deny that Tulo and Donaldson crowd the plate. Tulo especially.
You are allowed to work inside. If you stand that close to the plate you are going to get hit. The only reason Sanchez was suspended was because he was thrown out of the game. If he hadnt been MLB wouldnt have done anything. Its just MLB backing its umps.Comment

Re: MLB Off-Topic
So...Dombrowski released as Tigers GM so he could "pursue other opportunities". Has been linked as possible future president of Jays(since their current president is retiring after this season), looks like that could very well be his next destination!
Didn't hear anything about this until around the time of the Price deal, then people were suggesting that the guy who just traded Price to Toronto, could very well be coming to Toronto himself. Along with being part of the Marlins organization, he was with the Expos for a few years as GM also, layed the groundwork for what would be the dominant 94 Expos.Last edited by Majingir; 08-04-2015, 05:00 PM.Comment

Re: MLB Off-Topic
Dombrowski was director of player personnel with Expos for abit before taking over as GM and being youngest GM in MLB at the time at the age of 31.
AA was scout for Expos for abit before being scout/assistant GM on Jays and then becoming GM at the age of 32.Comment

Depends on the context. Strictly speaking, he took over a team that was one of the worst in American sports and played a large role in turning them into a team that won four division titles and went to two World Series.
But even that depends on how much credit you want to give him. He certainly made some really great moves - like I said, he should have ownership papers on the Marlins, he ravaged that franchise with the two trades he made with them. But at the same time, the Tigers rising from 119 losses to 95 wins and an AL pennant in three years (and the subsequent success after that) also directly corresponded with Mike Ilitch deciding to open up the checkbook and actually give a damn about his baseball team like he gave a damn about his hockey team.
Ultimately, the goal for Dombrowski was to assemble a team that would win a World Series before Mike Ilitch died. That didn't happen, and obviously now isn't going to happen. Overall, from 1-100, I'd give Dombrowski an 88-90. A solid B+/A-.Comment
