Dirt infield confirmed for next season. They're also looking at fortifying the concrete on the dome and replacing the scoreboard. (I'm guessing they mean the Jumbotron) Grass is still on the table but doesn't seem to be the #1 priority right now.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

The Toronto Blue Jays are planning to have a dirt infield at the Rogers Centre for the start of the 2016 season, according to John Lott of the National Post.
I'm glad they're at least doing the dirt infield, but I really hope they go full grass soon.
Artificial turf and baseball do not mix, IMO. Its like an NHL team putting in that skateable plastic crap.Comment

Research further into that, Money.
Toronto is paying them $600K to look into it.

I'm pretty sure there's been stuff put out there that's said that Guelph stuff was just fluff and that they haven't actually made any progress whatsoever.
Beeston promised grass, AA promised Price, and neither had to stick around to see the consequences of either not happening, and stuck the responsibility on Shapiro. Pretty ****ty."Twelve at-bats is a pretty decent sample size." - Eric ByrnesComment

Re: MLB Off-Topic
No, Anthopoulos is no longer around because his ego was far too large to have a standard president-executive relationship. Do you think Hoyer doesn't get Theo's approval on every move? Zaidi and Friedman? Forst and Beane?
His relationship with Beeston was so atypical of the industry norms today, as people who follow the Jays day to day probably realize. He wanted to continue that style of relationship, but there aren't many front offices with that kind of situation.
He rejected a 5 year extension because he wasn't willing to work under a high position as is the norm in the industry. If he's unwilling to work as a GM, fine, but that doesn't mean the Jays should be willing to bend and give more power to someone who doesn't deserve it. It's not Shapiro's fault Anthopoulos is a special snowflake.
I'm sure he'll get his full autonomy as president of Miami or whatever."Twelve at-bats is a pretty decent sample size." - Eric ByrnesComment

Re: MLB Off-Topic
You and I both know that Shapiro and AA weren't going to get along, period. This wasn't about AA wanting a special relationship as much as it was realizing the organization was moving in a different direction (this has been re-hashed on these very boards). AA was applauded when he got Price, he was applauded when he said they would go after Price in FA, and now you act like he left Shapiro with a tough situation? Please...Shapiro knew what he was getting into, which is exactly why AA left (he knew what he'd be getting into).
Anyway, obviously Shapiro knew what he was getting into, I was literally just saying it's a damn tough situation. Good on him for welcoming a challenge I guess. If it's been rehashed at length (I'll take your word, I don't keep too close an eye anymore), I won't waste any further thread space making points that have probably been made already."Twelve at-bats is a pretty decent sample size." - Eric ByrnesComment

Re: MLB Off-Topic
I don't know if it was ego, but I see as entirely legitimate for Alex Anthopoulos wanting to leave if his responsibilities were to change under Mark Shapiro.
Anthopoulos had final decision making ability as General Manager under Beeston.
This isn't comparable to Zaidi/Friedman or Frost/Beane since neither Zaidi or Frost ever held final decision making power in he first place.
Hoyer held decision making power in San Diego but he readily knew he wouldn't have that power in Chicago when he took the GM job, so again, that's different from what happened in Toronto.
What we are seeing through out the league is the so called "title inflation", GM's with decision making power taking that power up to the "President/Executive Vice President of Baseball Operations" role and hiring GM's which effectively serve as assistant GM's.
- Billy Beane was the GM and now is Executive Vice President of Baseball Operations.
- Andrew Friedman is President of Baseball Operations.
- Theo Epstein is President of Baseball Operations.
- Kenny Williams is another former GM which retains final say as Executive Vice President of Baseball Operations.
Since Beeston was on its way out it was inevitable some change was due; Anthopoulus probably thought he was going to go the President of Baseball Operations route and hiring a GM to work under him while retaining final say and the Blue Jays saw it differently.
When Anthopoulus understood that he was basically receiving a demotion (regarding decision making if not the title) then he wanted out.
Perfectly reasonable reaction in my opinion.OSHA Inspector for the NBA.Comment
