    Re: MLB Off-Topic

Yeah I have no issues understanding Pedro at all. He's pretty effective at breaking down pitching without getting too much into inside baseball jargon. He explains it all in a simple way without talking down to you.

I like Smoltz a lot as well but for different reasons. Smoltz is very smart and cerebral (in fact, most of the starting pitchers during the Braves great run would all make excellent pitching coaches IMO) and will break everything down right down to its base elements. I do think that he's probably a little too slick for studio analysis where it's mostly prepared material but he really shines in the booth where it's more off the cuff and he can be a little more loose.

He's a guy you have to sit there and watch closely to hear what he's saying, combined with the accent.

It took Sandy freaking Koufax 28 more starts to still be less effective than Martinez by almost 2 points of WAR during their respective peaks. Try to wrap your head around that for a minute. That's how great Pedro Martinez actually was. The best pitcher I've ever seen.
He was transcendent and he made it look so damn easy.

One of my most vivid baseball memories of Pedro is when he simply carved up a stacked NL All-Star lineup at the height of the Steroid Era. McGwire, Sosa, and (I think) Larry Walker all had no chance...and these guys were hitting 65-70 HRs and batting .360 at the time. Pedro was ramming it right down their throat at 99 mph and they had zero chance. I think that was the single dirtiest pitching appearance I've ever seen or maybe 1a/1b with Kerry Wood's taming of the Astros.

So, John Schuerholz stepping into "Vice Chairman" role from Team President. lol. This title inflation is really getting out of control...what's next, Theo Epstein assumes the role of Fleet Admiral of the Cubs? Dave Stewart promoted to Field Marshall?

Right because Pedro tossing an old man on the ground and putting him in tears was such a great moment in Yankees/Sawx history.

Maybe not ranked up there with the greatest in history, but there is no denying the hilarity of the moment. Or I have a twisted sense of humor. Either way it gave me a good laugh.

Perhaps you should do a little more research into that situation. Firstly, Pedro said to this day that is his biggest regret of his entire career. Secondly, both him and Zimmer have confirmed several times that Zimmer lost his footing and tripped.

                            On but off-topic:

The Kyle Farnsworth / Paul Wilson fight is the best takedown, by far, of any MLB brawl.

Actually it was Pedro who started it all. He hit Karim Garcia in the upper back with a fastball. Then Clemens goes high and in (nowhere close to batter [Manny]). Then Manny barks at Clemens and benches clear.

Also after seeing the gif, I don't buy that Zimmer tripped and fell.

                                No. He was not involved.

The Yankees assumed Pedro was throwing at batters when he nearly hit Karim Garcia.

Then Clemens threw a pitch high and tight on Ramirez who clearly overreacted. That started the bench clearing and Zimmer stupidly ran toward Pedro.
