    re: MLB Off-Topic

Is there a way that the Astros would lose that compensatory pick, or if it would get lowered, if it is found that they manipulated their offer or are found of some kind of wrongdoing?

It feels wrong that they should get the #2 pick next year because of this.

I really don't know. But can we officially call this the Aiken-gate scandal? Astros set a new low by trying to scam their #1 pick, and they should not have that pick, but one in the compensary 1st round.

I don't think they've broken any rules. They're trying their best to bend them, it seems, but I don't think they've done anything against the CBA or draft rules that warrants them losing that 2015 pick.

If they offered less money because they wanted to sign other guys, and blamed that on the "little" UCL, that's morally wrong. They did offer him a contract, Aiken and his agent just didn't accept. They could probably make a case if no contract was offered, but I just can't see them taking away that pick.

I wouldn't accept any offer from them either. They practically lied to the kid by trying to say he had a bad UCL and should take a pay cut. That is sad that a ball club has to go that low.

I mean, one would think trying to forge a medical issue would not only be against the rules but could probably also qualify as slander.

Well yes slander, but did they make those statements anywhere? I bet they didn't openly make those statements to anyone outside of the negotiations. Leaks are one thing, but you can't put that against them unless you can prove they leaked it their selves.

Then you have to see if there was a doctor that said the small UCL could be an issue. If a doctor did, then it is not slander. If the doctor was not truthful, then there are other issues.

You can offer whatever contract you want.

If I was a player in the top of the draft, I would let each team know if I wanted to play for them or not. I would tell them they would have to overpay for me if I didn't want to play for that team. They own your rights for way too long otherwise.

He will probably only be delayed 1 year by going to college for 3 years. He just won't be getting paid and if he is as good as his potential shows, then he will be paid close to the same amount.

Not saying they'll sue for slander, just saying that that's probably what it is even if there's no case for it.

Dr. James Andrews said there's no problem. There's no problem.

They're well within their rights to offer whatever they wish. The issue was alleging there was a problem when there wasn't one.

I feel like a lot of teams would be turned off by that.

Hopefully he can go to a junior college if UCLA is understanding but even then. It probably costs him two years imo. And the difference in bonus, as he'll certainly get a smaller one as he'll have less leverage. It'll be interesting to see what the MLBPA does with him and Nix, who they also had signed and reneged on.

I don't think there will even be a lawsuit. I believe the Astros, at first, really believed he had a problem with his UCL. You can't sue a team because they think your player has a problem.

Did you guys see the video of Jackie Bradley Jr. throwing a ball over the outfield wall... from home plate?! Talk about an arm...

I'll continue having my fantasy of the Padres trading Headley for Bradley.
