Re: MLB Off-Topic
Everyone keep on saying Chris Sale is tired of losing. Cheez I am a Braves fan and our star player Freddie Freeman isn't cutting up throwback jersey's and being a malcontent to the front office.
The White Sox were leading the central the first quarter of the season by the way. There's nothing like being a sore loser..

Re: MLB Off-Topic
I wonder how Sale hopes to make a lot of money next year if teams were to stop focusing on the business aspect of the game."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

My apologies if this has already been discussed here:
Report: Reducing MLB season to 154 games has 'gained momentum'
Sounds like this will be something the PA is going to heavily pursue in the next CBA - which expires December 1st.Comment

How is he supposed to "make more money" next year when he's still under team control on a very cheap deal. Does he have an opt out clause or something?Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: MLB Off-Topic
He's not saying that Sale's salary next year is floating and directly tied to revenue this year. What he's saying is the fact that a $12MM yearly salary is even considered "very cheap" is largely due to progress MLB has made in marketing/selling its product and hence generating revenue that creates an environment that can pay out enormous wages. The business side of the game (and the MLBPA's fights against collusion/reserve clause etc..) has given Sale the means to be a millionaire.
It might be silly for the club to deny a uniform request of their ace pitcher, but it's equally naive to think that business and winning are not related to one another. In that way, Sale is showing that he's a bit of a meathead quite frankly (and especially in the way he went about it).Chicago Cubs | Chicago Bulls | Green Bay Packers | Michigan WolverinesComment

I don't think you interpreted the original comment quite right. He didn't say "more money." He said "a lot of money."

Re: MLB Off-Topic
Reading Ben Linbergh's article today on The Ringer about A-Rod and Ortiz...
It really is crazy the fork they took. The one thing that I'll never get over is A-Rod admitting to the failed 03 test, had no reason to in retrospect, I think his PR people screwed up there. We still dont have the damn list, he should've just acted pissed off and like it wasn't possible, maybe people would have looked the other way like Ortiz. The way they're perceived now is hilarious to me. I just want the whole era where steroids existed to be erased from my mind.Originally posted by G PericoIf I ain't got it, then I gotta take it

"It better be one charmin' bleeping pig..".
If people like the person who took PEDs they give them a pass. If they're an ahole like A-Rod, they're strung up by their ears.
Ortiz seems like a cool guy, but I loathe any ball player who's been associated with PEDs.
I wouldn't be shocked if he's on them right now.
MLB's testing has gotten better and its punishments more severe, but it still seems to easy for cheaters to dodge the system.
A-Rod was on roids for the entire 2015 season and still passed every test.
If not for a disgruntled Bosch investor, nobody would have known he was on the juice.

Re: MLB Off-Topic
I wanted the open endedness of when and how he will get paid. Whether it's his current contract, new contract, or prior contracts.
The end point being, Sale gets paid because of business and to act as if it doesn't matter to the team (or himself) is beyond silly in his part."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. Interesting numbers on Heyward:
- According to Inside Edge, Heyward’s 22.9 percent line-drive percentage this season is the highest of his career. Baseball Reference has it even higher, at 27 percent.
- According to ESPN Stats and Information, Heyward is hitting .563 when he hits a line drive, a career low, and 156th out of 159 qualified hitters. For comparison, last year he hit .686 on line drives, a previous career low.
- Heyward’s batting average on balls in play is just .273. That ranks 135th in baseball. The league average is .311.
