No. A player's WAR is calculated by mathematically comparing him to a fictional, replacement-level player that would've played on the same team and at the same position. Therefore, the team played for is normalized out of the equation.

That fictional, replacement-level player is set to 0 WAR. If the real player does better, then he gets positive WAR. If he does worse, then he might be pitching for the Reds.

Bottom line: team performance has no impact on WAR.

Oof. That'd be so much funnier to me if it wasn't so true.

That's what I was thinking. Thanks!

Doesn't WAR take into account Sac Flies? And runs scored?

If you're looking for the offensive component of WAR, look into wOBA.

Yes sac flies, no runs scored.

Astros fans, what's with the small crowds? You'd think they'd be packing the house after last season and this year too since they're still in the hunt.

Anyone got any idea where Puig might end up? Clearly his Dodgers career is over, but maybe some team could get him for a nice cheap price. Greg Amsinger suggested earlier today that the Jays would even be a good fit for him. Bautista possibly gone after this year, and Puig with a nice affordable contract, and 20+HR potential, especially at Rogers Centre.

Not just them, but O's,Indians and Marlins also got bottom 11 attendance in the league this year, all 3 of those teams are in playoff picture.

I think he's going to go to a team that doesn't have any current upside right now, but is desperate for one in future years. The Angels would be a good start. He could then stay right there in So Cal haha.

There is no way that a contending team can chance with this guy disrupting their flow, but that's my personal opinion.

Didn't mean trade happens now, but in offseason.

Gotcha. I assumed they were optioning him to AAA until/unless they could find out if he might clear waivers.

Not calling the Jays a band of misfits at all, but I could see him fitting with that crew of personalities. Only in the offseason could such a deal work out though. If he doesn't get his act together on the field, his playing days might go behind him very very fast. He is natural talent without the apparent work ethic or devotion, and I hate to assume those things about him but that's how he plays in my eyes. I would hate to ever see him don a Giants uniform (not that something like that is an option).

He's already been assigned to AAA and I'm pretty sure he can still be placed on waivers.

I would have preferred the Braves get Puig instead of Kemp, only from the upside/potential aspect. Outside of that, he has been a real headache to deal with the last 2 years and I don't know that any team wants that.

No I know, but I'm wondering what team would claim him in his state and/or their state. I can't think of any contenders that would gamble on any part of this character at the end of the season, or how long they'd have to hold onto him if they did.
