The first couple of weeks in the Fall with my players, pitchers are only allowed to throw fastball/changeup in scrimmages. They want to quit after the first scrimmage, but once they start working on it, it develops pretty quickly.

It seems that many times these days I am blacked out of the game that is broadcasting on MLB Network, yet I never understand why.

I live in California, and the games that are in progress are Minnesota @ Cleveland and Kansas City @ Tampa Bay.

As I said, this isn't the first time they have done this. It would make sense if it was also on ESPN, FS1, TBS, WGN, whatever... but it's not.

I have DirecTV, by the way.

You're blacked out because one of the regional games being played right now is Giants/Phillies.

Same happens to me when the Orioles and Nats play on there, I assumed because the games are airing nationally it wouldn't be a problem. Sometimes MLB Tonight will say it's blacked out and I never know if a game is in extras, if they're showing Nats or O's highlights Im not supposed to see, no idea. It's just annoying.

Only a few games are aired with exclusive national rights. If you live in a market where the game can be seen on a local channel (regardless of if your carrier or package carries it) it will be blacked out.

Edit: and I agree that it can be quite annoying.

Gotcha. They don't mention that on DirecTV, and that's strange because when DirecTV tries to find a program in my region and can't find the Giants game, then it must not be looking for it in the first place.

Honestly the only reason I knew was because I was at lunch and some Philly fans came in wanting to find the game and it was blacked out here as well on MLB network and I had to help the girl find the S.F. CSN feed.

All networks should have the MLBN Alternate channel where you can watch the game that isn't blacked out in your area.

It's a dirty secret that not even a lot of DTV owners know about.

Whoops! I knew this, but on DirecTV I customize my channel list, and while I made this adjustment on my living room set I hadn't yet in my bedroom set.

Thanks for reminding me. I'll be sure to change that in my bedroom ASAP.

What sucks is when you knew the secret, but then both games are local and are blacked out.

Went to a Winston-Salem Dash game (CHW single-A affiliate) tonight. The groundskeeper hooked me up with 4 tickets in club-level seating, all-you-can-eat buffet and VIP parking.

First time I've been to the new stadium the city built back in 2010 and I really like how the park is laid out. The RF fence is one of the little "nook and crannies" that I love about MiLB stadiums that I wish newer MLB parks would employ.

Anyways, I think that the time between innings can be vastly sped up. It was around 3-4 minutes that could be condensed down to where the SP gets 5 warm-up pitches and instead of the IFs lolly gagging throws to the 1B, actually try to get their throws in.

It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.

That's a pretty nice stadium for single A.

I have been to several minor league games this summer (AA & AAA) and in between innings there is always a 2:00 minute clock...it never went beyond that and I'm sure they do that in every park (you can see it count down in CF).

In fact, the last game I went to the pitcher had batted and lollygagged getting out to the mound and had only thrown 1 pitch when the 2 minutes was up...the ump told him too bad and wouldn't let him finish. The manager went nuts...
