Re: MLB Off-Topic
Im trying to think of specific instances where this has bothered me and I can't think of any. I guess sometimes the catcher comes out for like 3 seconds after a cross up or just to say "Fastball" and goes back. Those could be taken out I guess I just dont understand why. Are catcher visits so disruptive that they need to be limited? Honestly feels just like the IBB rule to me.
Making hitters stay in the box or pitchers pitch faster, things that affect the game constantly and actually make a difference I understand. But why cut down on catcher visits to save 4 minutes out of a 3 hour game? I need the changes to be sweeping and all at once and then over, these tiny changes dont make any sense and are going to add to I feel a different looking game that takes 10 minutes less to be played.Originally posted by Jay BilasThe question isn't whether UConn belongs with the elites, but over the last 20 years, whether the rest of the college basketball elite belongs with UConnComment

Re: MLB Off-Topic
The nature of baseball being innings makes it nearly impossible to speed it up. We all know this though.
If the league is worried, bury a 2 hour clock in the game like the crap adult league I spent two years in, and call it a day.
If the clock stops at the 5th, game over.
It's ridiculous but cutting catcher visits, mound visits, etc isn't going to do a whole lot to a game that is designed to take its time."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Re: MLB Off-Topic
I'd be fine with limiting catcher visits to 1 per inning if the reasoning is because "Managers can only visit once" and not because "they take too long". That change makes sense to me but as a rule change and not a time cutting measure, it just wouldn't actually cut down a ton of time I don't think.Originally posted by G PericoIf I ain't got it, then I gotta take it

Re: MLB Off-Topic
Easiest way to fix the pace of play and time issues. Institute the 20 second pitch clock like there is in the minors. I'm not positive if the numbers back this up or not, but I feel like those games never last 4-5 hours unless you go into extras or there is some sort of delay. And that they finish in the 2:45 that the MLB finished during last season or the season before.

Re: MLB Off-Topic
LOL this is just so Blue Jays
With just under three months left in the regular season, some of the Toronto Blue Jays are starting to feel the heat in more ways than one.
Starting catcher Russell Martin is set to miss "a couple days" after injuring his knee in the shower following a lengthy stay in a sauna, manager John Gibbons told Sportsnet's Hazel Mae on Friday.
According to Gibbons, Martin began to feel light-headed after staying in the sauna for too long, and the backstop slipped in the shower afterward, injuring his left knee.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: MLB Off-Topic
So, the Giants are at a 1-1 tie with the Yankees and two outs in the 11th inning, and with Pagan on 3rd base Girardi decides to intentionally walk Crawford.
First pitch, overthrow.
Would have fallen right into my hands about how the legal pitch is important, but of course Pagan wasn't paying much attention, and had no chance of scoring. Of course, I screamed at the television. How you can't assume something like that might happen is beyond me. How much do we pay these guys to just play the damn game, again?
Eventually, Crawford grounds out in the at-bat and the Giants don't score.
Now that last part is important, because that means that Girardi said, "Betances can't throw an IBB? **** that, I'm going after the hitter instead." So with a 1-0 count, Betances goes after Crawford and gets his third out.
If this rule changes next year to automatically assign the IBB, not only does the overthrow not get to happen, but an IBB cancellation later in the at-bat doesn't get to happen either. I provided at least one video of the latter happening before and resulting in a strikeout, and now here is another one (albeit discovered the hard way as a Giants fan, but still).
Ridiculous they're considering taking this legal action out because of pace of play.
