There's only one contender in my mind and it's the undisputed best player in baseball wrecking shop. Give it to the Fish.

I hope Trout loses just to tick off all the people ready to jump off a bridge whenever a case is made for Betts as AL MVP. Personally, I don't care for individual rewards that are decided by a voting system, but those people are annoying to no end.

I'm still trying to find an excuse for why a team has to sit for 5+ days before their playoff series begins...

The #1 argument against a first-round bye is that teams shouldn't have to wait that long, especially pitchers, yet here we are with the Cubs waiting until Friday to play.

Might as well make winning the division actually worth something...go back to two divisions and give a first round bye to the champs...Best of 5 for the WCs in the first round.

        blah blah rant over
        Australian Rules Football...just sayin'

          Yes I would.
I think MLB should do everything in their power to make sure the WC winner doesn't get any sort of advantage.
If teams don't like it, then win your division.

It's gonna kill me more out of confusion than anger. Like this guy is so clearly the best player in his league, and he hasn't had a down year or anything, but they won't give him MVP? It's just confusing. Like what are people voting for I always wonder. He is obviously the most valuable player, he leads the other candidates in almost every category. We need Trout in the playoffs, it just doesn't make any sense to me.

                Because people love Hollywood stories.
Mookie comes out of nowhere to have a monster season. Might as well write "FIN" at the end of his baseball card it was such a magical season.
It's the same when picking Coach of the Year. It always goes to some guy who took a bad team and made them good, never to the coach/manager who is able to maintain a good, or great team, every year.

I agree with you. Trout was clearly the best player in the AL this year.
What he's able to do with almost no support is incredible.
I also hate bringing up this cliche'd argument, but if he was playing on an EST team, he'd be winning this award more.
He's an afterthought playing on the Left Coast.

P.S. Not taking away anything from what Betts did this year. He was brilliant.

I'll ignore the first bolded, as he didn't "come out of nowhere". As for the second bolded, Clayton Kershaw and Madison Bumgarner also play on the left coast.

And although Trout should win the MVP, it's perfectly understandable giving it to a player who isn't the "GOAT" that plays for a postseason team. If Trout wants the accolades, his team needs to do better.

Betts nearly doubled his 'big numbers' so that's why I said he came out of nowhere.

Regarding Bum and Kershaw, both those guys play for a more storied franchise than Trout.

I'm not going to cry bloody murder if Mookie wins, but in my mind, Trout is the best player in the AL.

He absolutely is. Might be the best player in the Majors. But until A) his team gets better, or B) he leaves them behind and plays for a better team, he won't get the recognition he deserves no matter how high his WAR gets.

Well it's happened multiple times for teams with a losing record. Angels didn't finish in last place anyway. As a fan of a team that faces Trout many times a year, he's still the Most Valuable Player in this league.
