re: MLB Off-Topic
The best player on the planet right now is Mike Trout.
Once he starts to accumulate postseason success, he will also become a figure that transcends the sport.Comment

That's why there might not be another Jeter for a long time. Someone nailed it; he was never THE best player in the sport, but he won all those WS with signature moments included. Another guy has to be lucky enough to get to all those WS and be a really good player and have those big moments to become the face of baseball like Jeter has been.
That's a lot of stuff aligning just perfectly. But Trout is best positioned to take over, based on talent and the Angels finally becoming a good team again with all that money invested in their players.NHL - Philadelphia Flyers
NFL - Buffalo Bills
MLB - Cincinnati Reds

Is Derek Jeter the face of baseball? Probably. Is he overrated? Again, probably. I respect his contributions and certainly enjoyed watching him (for the most part, lol), but I do feel like the love got a little outrageous sometimes. He belongs in the HOF no question and he was a fantastic player, but he's not an all-time great."Twelve at-bats is a pretty decent sample size." - Eric ByrnesComment

I've conceded I'm impressed by his Q-Rating, but I won't concede he's the face of baseball.
ONE World Championship in the last 14 years? Is the "face of baseball" thing mostly New York hype?Comment

Diamondbacks fired Kirk Gibson and Alan Trammell.
Trammell will manage the final 3 games though. Weird.Comment

re: MLB Off-Topic
Saying he's the face of baseball doesn't mean he's the best, it means he's one of the the most recognizable faces in the game. You ask people on the streets who Jeter is, most people would be familiar with his name, not the case with Miggy, Trout, Kershaw, Cutch etc.. Jeter is a household name, like Kobe, Jordan, Lebron, Peyton Manning etc.Comment

re: MLB Off-Topic
I wasn't counting 2014, seeing as we don't have a WS winner yet, but I guess it's all moot, since the Yankees are out of it this year, still it's not a stretch at all too say 2 titles in 15 years. Nobody has more then 3 in the last 15 years. Not to mention two other WS appearances, that were thwarted by the D'Backs and Marlins of course, I'm just saying that's pretty damn good, Homer or not.Comment
