Ushers aren't there to police fans, you would need to pay them much more for that to be their job in addition to hiring ushers as if they were bouncers rather than friendly greeters.

They are there to help people find their seats, wipe down when necessary, and make sure everyone is okay on foul balls.

They have no expectation of reeling in rowdy fans. That's why most stadiums have the text line now to alerts on site police of rowdy fan behavior.

If someone's being disruptive, they could at least give them a warning and if it continues, call security. I'm sure the casual fan doesn't even know about texting to alert someone of that. I don't even know who to contact either.

The Rockies have a number on the ticket that you can call/text for fan issues. They also have announcements on the LED and scoreboards around the park.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure every single MLB stadium has that. I know Minute Maid Park did.

It's blasted out numerous times during games. If there are disruptive fans, it's easy to alert the proper folks (casual fan or not). Even if you don't see the text alert info, you can tell your usher and THEY will report it to the appropriate people. It's really not that difficult.

The situation that provoked this discussion wouldn't have been able to have been stopped one way or the other though. Can't waive a magic wand and make it go away.

Good on MLB for suspending Joyce, it was the right thing to do. And shame on Joyce who IS an all around good guy who hit a moment of weakness.

He's playing with an extremely heavy heart right now. Doesn't make it right, but all in all, this is over after today.

That news just kills me. My favorite Phillie ever and a guy I had the pleasure of hanging out with on multiple occasions. He will be greatly missed.

                  Re: MLB Off-Topic

Question for any Mariners fans out there...I was perusing baseball stat projections (as I tend to do on Sunday nights lol) and noticed that a lot of the young SPs in the M's organization are projected to have really low BB/9 rates. Guys like Dylan Unsworth, Andrew Moore, Ariel Miranda, Sam Gaviglio, Nick Neidert, and--to some extent--the newly acquired Marco Gonzales.

So this has me thinking...the pitcher draft-and-develop philosophy that many organizations seem to take is really about taking projectable strike out monsters and hoping there's maybe a 10% chance any one of them pan out to be useful. Are the M's, under DiPoto, focusing more on amassing a bunch of high floor guys that maybe have a higher chance of being useful but a lower chance of being dominant? Have you guys noticed any patterns like that? Or if guys are being told "throw strikes or else..." moreso than before? It seems to be pretty stark just from comparing projected BB rates between the M's and SP prospects in most other organizations.

That sucks ***. Dutch Daulton was a key cog in those late 80s/early 90s Phillies teams. The ones with Mickey Morandini, Lenny Dykstra, John Kruk, Dave Hollins, Curt Schilling, Terry Mulholland, and wild thing Mitch Williams to name a few. That was truly a great ensemble of a team where it was greater than the sum of the parts. Even if they couldn't quite beat Toronto, they were a great team.

Just recently I was reading up on this year's amateur draft and the D'Backs selected a catcher named Daulton Varsho in the 2nd round (?). Well, his dad is Gary Varsho, former Cub and Phillie. And he named his kid after Darren Daulton. Shows you that Dutch was a well-liked dude.

Way too soon for Darren Daulton.

Just realized that Darren Daulton passed away 7 years to the day of his induction into the Phillies Wall of Fame. Philadelphia is in mourning today.

R.I.P. to both men. They're in a better place now.

I'm sure both the Phillies and Rockies will do something to honor both men.
