So I've been watching the catch from this replay so many times that I ignored his girlfriend in that shot entirely. That is one of my former students, Christina. Very cool!

I'm going to try and contact her and see what has unraveled for them since the incident, especially with them wrongly being kicked out.

Good call. At first I thought that could have just been an article update, but normally they would keep the original message if so and just update on top of that.

EDIT: Here is that article, anyway. And what do you know, they provide that exact kind of update in it as well.

Thanks Blzer. That's as bad as the triple Judge hit. A clear homer that the replay officials somehow got wrong.

Not sure what they're doing there.

It's Minors stuff, but in an insane scenario last night, the Tri-City Dust Devils needed to lose to keep their playoff hopes alive. If they won, they eliminated themselves. They also needed Spokane to lose.

Good news is they lost. Bad news is Spokane hit a walk-off.

How did that work? They needed to lose to keep their playoff hopes alive? That doesn't even make sense...

They were playing Vancouver, who was in first place and won the first half of the season. If Vancouver won, they'd win the second half and Tri-City would make the playoffs. If TC beat Vancouver, Spokane would win the second half and Spokane would make the playoffs.

It's all moot now because Spokane won their game, but still a weird crazy scenario.

The only thing I can think of is the split season format, or whatever it is called.

A lot of variables where other teams can make the post season if the teams that won the first half didn't win the second half.

This is basically it. Vancouver won the first half and Tri-City would make the playoffs if Vancouver also won the second half.

I was curious if that is what it was...in the 1981 MLB season they did a split season and the league had to change their policies when it became apparent that a team could benefit from "losing" to make the playoffs, similar to what you are describing.

The only thing that confuses me, what place was Tri City in?

Were they tied with Spokane and won the season series? Curious how they could have leaped them with a loss.

Based on what I'm seeing, because it's just a few tweets that I'm trying to decode as well, if both Spokane and TC lost, TC would get in with a better overall record. I'm assuming two teams from each division make the playoffs.

Spokane finished the season 61-52, Tri-City finished 60-53. If they finished with the same record, I'm assuming TC won the season series over Spokane.

I don't know, I don't have avenues for watching Minor League games. They lost 5-0, though. So maybe they did.

Thank goodness they don't do the split season thing in MLB (though they had to do it for expediency in 1981) because that kind of scenario would cause people's heads to explode. I could imagine how the screaming heads at ESPN and Fox would go nuts over it.
