Re: MLB Off-Topic
The requirements went into place in 1958, so anything built before then is grandfathered in. Also, there have been a few exceptions granted (RF at Camden Yards is only 318' because of the B&O Warehouse...MLB approved, but the compromise is the 21' wall)."People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. Every seat should have a big cushioned back and a hair salon-like plexiglass visor! Anything in the name of safety.Comment

I'm not a big fan of the roofing for the new Texas stadium but otherwise it looks alright.
As for the whole safety issue it is what it is.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Like I said, baseball makes exceptions...for example, in the case of Yankee Stadium they wanted to stay as close to the old Yankee Stadium dimensions as possible."People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. Re: MLB Off-Topic
I've been reading a lot lately about stadium design lately since the A's are actually making progress.
I wonder how the Yankees got away with the new stadium design. Selig, cough, Selig. They kept the short lines for the historical reasons but then got to throw that out the window and make the walls even shorter than the original.
All the other stadiums with short lines had to be designed to have higher walls to compensate.Oakland Athletics San Jose Sharks

Re: MLB Off-Topic
The roofing is similar to what Seattle has at SafeCo and Houston in Minute Maid. It's an open air retractable roof stadium with windows.Last edited by ShowTyme15; 09-21-2017, 07:45 PM.Comment

Re: MLB Off-Topic
Speaking of retractable roofs the Nationals have been proposing putting a roof on their stadium for a few years now. What I don't understand is why they didn't think of that when they built it originally?Comment

I get that but....I'm tired of these cookie cutter fields. Wrigley, Fenway, Polo Grounds...so unique.Originally posted by Gibson88Anyone who asked for an ETA is not being Master of their Domain.

Not really a fan of this regressive thinking on the safety nets. While all the little jokes are fine about how coddled and safe everyone and everything needs to be, there's just no good reason not to make sure 100+ MPH liners aren't spraying into areas of the stadium where people can't (or don't) react in time. I'm sure in good time netting will be invented that is basically transparent--just wait until we get to the Star Trek years and invent transparent aluminum.Chicago Cubs | Chicago Bulls | Green Bay Packers | Michigan WolverinesComment
